Meet Daniel Escobar of Proactechs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Escobar.

Daniel, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
All my life, I was interested in technology. My Mom and Dad were tech aficionados. They were professors at a graduate school in Caracas, Venezuela. It fascinated my mother to write books and articles using the computerized copy/paste functionality and it marveled my father to create large spreadsheets digitally that would recalculate hundreds of formulas instantaneously. We always had Macs at home with whatever latest gadget was available. From CD-ROMs with entire encyclopedias to video cameras that allowed chatting with others in faraway places. I would wake up in the middle of the night to spend hours chatting with a ton of strangers I would never meet. It was truly amazing to be able to do such a thing. When deciding what to major in college I chose accounting because I thought it would be more useful than computer science. I should have gone with my gut.

Years later after my parents passed away, I found myself moving to the US and working for the company I admired the most: Apple. I worked in the Palm Beach Apple Retail store for couple of years until I decided I needed to stop saying no to customer requests and become and independent consultant member of the Apple Consultants Network that was in 2010. We are now a company of 6 with an Apple Authorized Service Location on the prestigious Lincoln Road in Miami Beach.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Nothing good is ever easy. Hiring people has been tough. Technicians are terrible sales people. However we have been blessed not to have endured a recession yet and year over year things are better. Spending more than we make is the constant struggle. I always want to go above and beyond for everyone and that comes at a cost.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
We always find a way to say yes and we believe in extending the life of great products rather than throwing them away. We are the quickest Apple Authorized Repair Shop in Miami. We want your device back in good hands in the shortest amount of time possible. Because we have a common goal that goes beyond simple economic benefit I believe we have more purpose as a team. When you come into our store it feels like everything is going to be ‘ok’. Providing a superior customer service experience is what we strive for. You can get your iPhone or Mac repaired in other places (with original components, tools, certified techs and Apple diagnostic) but we can do it in a timely, friendly and professional fashion. On top of providing exceptional repairs, our onsite support for home, business, technology network, surveillance, access control and server project installation for restaurant, office and retail make us the premium one stop shop for anything an Apple fan could need.

What were you like growing up?
As a boy, I was shy and loved being on the computer (still today!). My favorite thing to do was to make programs using a software called “Logo” that would draw shapes out of text. I would spend hours making complex drawing using code. I also got into using the internet before it had pictures, chatting away the night using text and dial up modems. In Caracas, Venezuela my family lived a life where I was able to enjoy such luxuries. I also spent a lot of time playing Magic the Gathering a collectible role-playing game. I learned how to negotiate with cards and manage statistical risk. I didn’t have many friends but the few I had were good ones. Still today I always prefer quality over quantity.
