Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Bartley.
Daniel, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I began my professional music career at a young age. My formative training began at the age of seven with classical piano and I developed my performance and vocal skills in my father’s church. I attended both the middle school and high school of the performing arts as well. After graduating from Dreyfoos High school of the Arts in 2005, I attended Florida Atlantic University where I studied Commercial Music.
I began performing my original music at local Open Mic nights at that time and was one of the founding members of my band Dep Groov/The DeepGroove. Within 4yrs DBJ (formerly known as Danny B) I had performed at the Kravis Center of the performing arts, signed onto Hoot Wisdom Recordings (Florida Atlantic University record label), opened for Mario, David Banner and Ludacris, and performed at many local events big and small. I also released my 1st E.P through Hoot Wisdom Recordings called “Luv Sick”. Between 2012 – 2017 I took a hiatus from music to focus on family and restarted in Miami in April of 2017.
Since April 2017 I’ve released my 1st single “C.I.M: Caught in the Middle”, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th singles “MGRX: Mystery Girl”, “The New Classic”, and “Red Rose” in 2018 and I’m currently performing throughout South-Florida, hosting 2 YouTube & IGTV show called “How Dreams Come True” & “Never Stop Believing”, and working on new music to be released later this year and 2020. In about Jan of 2019, I hired onboard the team my manager Mr. Crump. He’s been a cornerstone and pinnacle to the trajectory and direction of my career and the DBJr brand. I’ve also created a new band called DBJr & The Excellence. Our vision is to bring excellence, dignity, class, and positive messages of love and community to our audience and the world.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road to success is not always a straight one. But I’ve found that everything that happens is necessary to get to where you want to go. Whether finances aren’t always where we want them, or a show cancels, or a musician bails on a show, throughout my career, there have been highs and lows. I realize however that it’s part of my story and is helping shape and mold me for the better. Mr. Crump (my manager) and I share similarities in this way and push ourselves and the brand forward to achieve the goals we set forth. So yes, there are struggles. Yes, there will be more struggles to come. But my team and I are up to the task of bringing this incredible music to the world.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
DBJr (Daniel Bartley Jr) is a musical Artist/Singer-Songwriter and a brand focused on creating a community around RnB/Soul music. We are known for the elegance, class, power, ability to move a crowd, and create experiences through live shows, music, and (coming soon) merchandise.
We are most proud of the growth and momentum that we’ve gained since our rebranding earlier this year. DBJr has won 2 local competitions (American Airlines Arena Conquer Entertainment & The Flex), has begun performing locally with the band and continues to build awareness around his music.
What sets us apart is a break from the Hip-Hop/RnB/Trap norms. Our dress, the way we interact/engage with audiences, and professionalism make DBJr music and brand a step above what anyone normally sees.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment of my career thus far has been the competitions that I recently won. Most of the artists on those platforms were rap and RnB/Trap artists. My thought is always to aim to win and be the best however we’re going against the grain swimming upriver. To be able to win those competitions in the current musical climate speaks volumes to what people are yearning for on the inside and the power my music has to touch people. I’m excited for the next chapter and the amazing music and community we are building.
