Meet Christopher Wands of Douglas Elliman in Miami Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christopher Wands.

Christopher, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’m originally from Port Washington, New York. I moved to Miami in 2012 when I transferred to the University of Miami. When I was done with school, I got involved in a Sales position at a water sports company and became a top salesperson immediately. When I realized I had a knack for sales, I decided since I grew up in a real estate household, I would become a realtor like my mother. I am a fourth generation real estate professional, both my great-grandparents and grandparents were developers and contractors. Sales have always come easily to me because of my love to talk to people. Within my first year work at Douglas Elliman, I was able to achieve the rookie of the year award. I have had the opportunity to work on some of the best real estate projects in Miami such as Park Grove. Within three years, I have become a Top Producer selling over 35M in real estate for 2018.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it has not been a smooth road. Real estate is never a smooth road there have been some great highs and some unbelievable lows. When I first started, it was incredibly difficult working in a 100% commission based business I didn’t even know where to start. My motto has always been to always service the client no matter what the opportunity was. I definitely took this head on my first year, I didn’t say no to anything. I went from showing rentals for under 1000K a month in areas not so nice to showing people vacation homes up to a million dollars plus on the beach. I was the first one in the office and the last one to leave almost every day and would spend countless hours in my apartment even after work learning the market. People would hand me their scraps and It didn’t matter what the deal was, I was hungry to succeed. There are 35 thousand plus realtors in Miami Dade county standing out amongst them is not easy.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am really a jack of all trades and don’t have a true focus area as of yet, most of my business, however, has been conducted in the Miami Beach and Coconut Grove markets as well as the Boca/Delray market. Recently, I have been focusing more and more on the single family home market in these areas as opposed to the condo market. What I would say sets me apart from other is my tenacity to get the job done. I have countless time went above and beyond to get a deal done whether it be for a sale, to get a listing, or to do a rental. I have flown out of state before to close a deal as well as to get a listing. I also pride myself on my communication and follow up. I can’t tell you how many people don’t answer their phones in the business. There’s rarely a time people cannot reach me. I also pride my self on my marketing abilities specifically social media. I would not call my self an influencer by any means but I have been able to grow a following which has led me to secure two 20 plus million dollar listings as well as close a handful of real estate transactions.

Tell us about your childhood, what were you like growing up?
I was always a loud one and never stopped talking. I would always be the one getting in trouble in class for talking too much and asking too many questions. I was not always the best student, but I was always very creative. Growing up, I spent a lot of time traveling because I competitively raced sailboats from a young age.
