Today we’d like to introduce you to Christina Nicholson.
Christina, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far. With a bachelor’s degree in public affairs journalism and more than a decade of storytelling, I understand the importance of creating content and delivering it to the public.
As a journalist, I usually didn’t read more than two sentences of what a publicist sent. What they sent was too long, didn’t have anything to do with what I covered, wasn’t newsworthy, and the list goes on. Because of this, I decided to leave the news business and do that job, but better. Because of my experience, I know what works and what doesn’t.
My work in the media industry has also led me to establish relationships with journalism professionals on local, state, and national levels.
I’ve represented a wide array of clients and have earned many publicities on national daytime TV talk shows, in local and national magazines, on local TV stations, in newspapers, and on websites and blogs with millions of monthly unique visitors… to name a few. I’ve gotten clients featured on the Today Show, the Rachael Ray Show, in the Chicago Tribune, Washington Post, Men’s Fitness, Food & Wine, Entrepreneur, and much more.
Has it been a smooth road?
The biggest struggle comes in building a team. Last year, my business grew faster than I could work. As it continues to grow, I continue to add to my team, but finding the right people is a struggle. It’s not easy to find people who know how to handle what’s thrown at them with a great work ethic.
To me, work ethic trumps experience and I’ve kissed some frogs, and still do, as I continue to build my team and my business. Luckily, I have been able to find and keep hold of some of the best in the business.
We’d love to hear more about your business. In business, lots of people talk the talk but don’t walk the walk. I do both. I think it’s important to practice what you preach and be a reflection of your brand.
I preach visibility and earned media, so that’s what you see from me and what my team and I earn my clients. I rarely need to reach out to prospects because they find me. By the time they send me an email or call me, they already know, like, and trust me because they’ve seen or heard me in so many places already – online articles, podcasts, Lifetime TV, Instagram, etc.
That’s what sets me apart. Not many PR agency owners are part-time members of the media like I am. It’s important for me to write for Inc. Magazine and host segments on Lifetime TV and work with other social media influencers because that’s my industry. In any industry, but the media industry specifically, it’s important to keep a finger on the pulse.
What I do for myself is what I do for my clients – earn media to reach the most amount of people in the quickest span of time without spending any money on advertising. Why? Because it works!
Is our city a good place to do what you do? South Florida is a great place to start a business because we have three great cities right on top of each other – West Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Miami. Whether your business to business or business to consumer, there is no shortage of either here!
