Hi Chelsea, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Thank you so much for having me for this interview. My names Chelsea Rodriguez, I’m the Owner and Esthetician of The Mobile Esthi in Fort Lauderdale. I’ve been a licensed esthetician for the past five years; and have always been a little unconventional when it comes to skincare. As you know in March Covid hit, and it took a huge toll on skincare services resulting in me being laid off from my job. I am someone who needs to be busy, so immediately I researched ways to make money from home or new ideas to make money. That lead me to discover Monat, I loved the ingredients in the skincare line, I thought this would be an amazing steppingstone into my true wants and desires. Boy, was I right, it led me to something I didn’t think was achievable, starting my own esthetic business. I took my love of travel and merged it into a business idea – The Mobile Esthi. Originally, I started with only mobile facials, giving my clients a bit of relaxation during a time of craziness. By chance, I came across Maddie & Free Flow Studio and took a chance by partnering with her. So now here I am 7 months later, with my own esthetic studio, doing something I LOVE, and that’s helping people with their skin.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s never easy starting a business on your own. I struggled for a bit with my confidence like I mentioned above and wondered just how successful this new venture might be with covid still happening. As an esthetician, our field took a huge hit, I mean, no one wanted to take their mask off and that’s a big part of a facial. I did a lot of self-development to get over this hump. I let go of all the worry that was plaguing me, the negative connotations people shared with me over opening during a pandemic and I started to take action. I realized being successful takes grit. I formed a plan and I stuck to it. And now I’m incredibly grateful for the people I get to be of service to!
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m very much a researcher by nature, always finding a way to solve a problem or wanting to learn more about ingredients and how they work on the skin. What sets me apart from other spas or estheticians is that I’ve taken my talents to other countries and absorbed the different ways of facial massage and products they use. Learning from these different cultures, I perform different techniques. I tailor make every facial to my client’s specific needs, meaning they don’t pay for something that they don’t need. I also believe in a more holistic approach to skin, focusing on diet and plant-based product usage vs prescribed medications & chemically based skincare.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My favorite childhood memory is not so safe now a days lol but my dad used to have a 1969 Ford Mustang. I grew up in Botetourt County, Virginia, where the roads are literally built around the mountains. Every weekend in the summer we’d go to the lake and pile in the back of the car. My brothers and I would slide back and forth on the seats going around the mountains (no seat belts in that car). These moments are so fond for me because it was some of the happiest moments I had with my family.
