Meet Cesar Perez of Bluemoon Filmworks in Miami Gardens

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cesar Perez.

Cesar, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I studied Film Directing and Production back in Cuba in the early nineties. There I was able to gain experience by participating in several indie films, music videos and experimental films, In the beginning as a grip or 1st assistant camera and later on as a camera operator and Director of Photography. My family and I migrated to the US in 1995 searching for the liberties we didn’t have back in our homeland. When I got here, just like any immigrant I did several types of jobs for some time, but none fulfilled my needs to create. So I kept on working towards my goal of doing what I love most. In 1997, my father and I started Alpha Image Productions which served as a platform for a small TV documentary about wild life species in the everglades. Alpha Image was around for a few years and later became what it is today Bluemoon Filmworks. Loving every aspect of the film process has pushed me to learn every crew position, but my real passion is directing. Even though it is the most challenging, it allows me to express myself more freely.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The recent access to the latest technologies in the industry (cameras, editing computers, software, distribution platforms, etc) has given rise to a new generation of filmmakers in every area of the industry. One must keep oneself fresh, innovating, informed and always growing in order to better serve the profession. Video has become mainstream and the things that were steadfast rules years ago are constantly evolving. I welcome the challenges, whatever they. They offer an incredible opportunity for growth and to rekindle my passion.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Bluemoon Filmworks – what should we know?

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
There are a great deal of people that have inspired me and contributed to encourage me to continue my journey. First, my mother, she was a great artist and film enthusiast, my father, a great scientist and human being. I owe a tremendous debt to all my teachers in film-school. I had the honor to learn at first hand from people like Brian de Palma and Francis Ford Coppola. Years later here in the USA, from legends like screen- writer Aaron Sorkin and Cinematographer Shane Hurlbut.

In the years I have been producing videos, I have learned valuable lessons from all my clients in many fields of business, technology and the arts. In this field you never stop learning and getting inspired, that is why I consider my job, the best job in the world.
