Meet Carolina Correa of Stoneworks of USA in Doral

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carolina Correa.

Carolina, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have always had a fascination for architecture, furniture, and art. As an industrial designer, it has been just instinctive to fall in love with natural stone as an architectural element.

As a Colombian, I also always admired our country’s immense resources, being Coral stone one of them. We have fortresses and beautiful monuments built in this amazing material.

In 2002, having just come to Miami with my family, I was offered the opportunity to introduce our Coral stone to South Florida. I did not hesitate and immediately jumped into it. A short time after, I was covering my friend’s pool deck with it which turned out amazing!

From that moment, it has been a growing and deeply rewarding experience, as I’ve had the opportunity to participate in the finishing of beautiful projects, which I get to see from paper to reality. After 16 years, we have gone from Colombian Coral to natural stone from all around the world, and from South Florida to numerous homes in the Caribbean.

Has it been a smooth road?
No road in life is smooth and mistakes are probably our best teachers.

There is a time when you have to decide not only what you want to do, but also what you will not do, and that is a defining moment for a company. It also comes after trial and error and hard learned life experiences. I feel grateful for those too because they have shaped what I am, what my business is, and what we stand for.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Stoneworks of USA – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I would say, we specialize in custom stonework, but our biggest goal is to provide peace of mind.

The finishes of a house are the most personal part of the construction process, the floors, countertops, fireplace, patio, pool… all these are the little jewels of a property that gives it the character and makes it unique. We facilitate the process of achieving our client’s vision and handle our projects individually and personally.

Selecting the right material for a floor, a kitchen countertop, a pool deck, the right size, finish and layout, deciding what the best way is to fabricate the mantle for a fireplace, or a stone railing for an outdoor stairway, managing the logistics of an installation process, making sure schedules are met, and all the little things that go in between. There is much logistic and coordination behind a small or big project and it is the details that make the big difference, That is what sets us apart.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I have to say that one of the things I most enjoy about Miami is its ever-changing architecture, from Miami Beach Art Deco to the super modern hotels and buildings like One Museum which I can’t wait to see completed!

Being an international destination makes of Miami a vibrant and very interesting place to experience.

If I could change something about Miami, I’d probably add more bike lanes and increase our public transportation system. It’d be great to integrate the community that way. I would love not to have to drive everywhere I go.
