Meet Carmen Howard

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carmen Howard.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Carmen. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Growing up in East Germany and on stage the last ten years as a political satiric comedian, I left the country after the wall came down and they didn’t have much use for our culture. I left for Portugal for a year to work and got recruited to Tenerife, Canary Island, Spain. In Tenerife, I lived and work for six and a half years and decided to come to America in December 1996 with ten words English, two suitcases, a beauty case and a lot of dreams. As I didn’t speak English and didn’t have anything to show, I start to clean homes and hotels… at this time, alcohol was my best friend. May 1999, I decided to “divorce” my friend alcohol and cigarettes and since then, I haven’t touch any of those buddies. I started to work in a warehouse and start to learn English. I worked different jobs, met my mother-in-law at my job and when she was sick, I help her and so I met my ex-husband. My life was not that what I hope to be, but I worked hard every day. I start at Lowe’s Improvement in 2004 and shortly after, I was surrounded by some Christian coworkers and it took a vision and an invitation to Mount Bethel Baptist Church in June 2005 to give my life to Christ. From there on, my life changed 180 degrees. I was responsible for all exports at Lowes in Oakland Park, Fl and I brought the department from number 7 to number to 2 in four years with an ending increase of $980000.

But I know there was so much more I could do. I worked in different ministries at my church and I know I had to go back to be a comedian or in real estate. I did both, 2015, I became a Real Estate agent and a real funny one,
God blessed me with a grand to purchase a condo through a first time home buyer program and now, I can tell people how to become a homeowner and I do it with a lot of fun and give back us much I can. But that is not the end of my story, growing up in East Germany, living in different countries after the wall came down, becoming a Christian at the young age of 48. I have much more to give. I love my profession and it is a perfect tool to help people and still make money. But it came a time I wanted to get retired. So, I planned to move to Thailand in 2021. After three months of me having made all the researches and booked a ticket to Phuket, Thailand, God spoke to me.

He said I have to help children out of sex slavery. I said NO. He said: Yes, you will. I said I won’t, I didn’t even like children. God said you will!!!! I don’t know if HE meant YOU WILL LIKE CHILDREN or if HE meant YOU WILL HELP THE CHILDREN, anyway I on the phone with my Pastor Bishop C.E. Glover and I got an appointment to talk to him. He said to me after I told him about my vision. He said all that is need is your willingness to go when HE calls you. Now, I am in Pattaya meeting different organizations and find out where to live and preparing my move to Thailand, not to retire, but to help children.

I don’t know what else I can tell you about me, except I am very grateful to be accepted in my community, friends and my Church and I will continue to my very best, as I always say. No promises, except I will do my very best!!!!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It was anything than smooth. Growing up in the communist regime and being on the end a political satiric comedian was the opposite than smooth. But that prepared me for every stage in life and every place and country I lived in. If you don’t speak a language in a country you come into, you never been there, you do not have any friends or even companion, it is anything than smooth. Learning English picking it up from the street, the TV and yes, my first computer with 43, it was not really smooth. Even in the export business, I had very big challenges, but I come from a country where nothing was smooth. To become a successful Real Estate agent was anything else than smooth, but I learn to make it on a dime as I learn to sew my own pillows, so I learned every job they put me in or I put myself in.

I have a strong belief that if you put your mind in something, you can make it. You can’t only dream, you have to make those dreams to goals and then work toward your goal. Do everything you can and the best you can and leave the rest to God.

Please tell us more about your work. What do you do? What do you specialize in? What sets you apart from the competition?
As a Real Estate agent, you have to know what your clients want, but more what they need. If you can put this, what they want into their needs, you have already won. I have my continued clients because I am very accurate and knowledgeable. But they get it with a kind of humor, wisdom and sometimes bossiness. My clients have to love me otherwise, I can’t assist them. Because I love what I do and how I do it and if you see that you have the very best realtor, you always dreamed of… I can provide some testimonies… lol!

I am known for my loud voice and laugh and my pink/purple hair and some agents or clients call me pinky or bosslady.

I am very humbled, that I had the chance to help people not only in my profession but also as a member of my church and several ministries in my church.

I am maybe different because of my heavy accent and my laughter, but I know I am so very good at what I do because I love what I do.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My childhood was different for some because I was abused by my dad, but that’s why I loved to play theater. I was always acting in some roles and I did it so well that it became my passion and later my job.
