Meet Carla Dilorenzo of Los Tanitos Restaurant in West Kendall

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carla Dilorenzo.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Carla. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I grew up in the kitchen alongside my father and brother; I have been cooking and butchering for over 20 years, however, it was not until recently that I found my passion for cooking and started to share it with the world. It was about a year ago when Los Tanitos had lost their chef and I went from the front of the house to the back of the house, and truly fell in love with the kitchen.

Last year, I was the only female who competed and placed 3rd in the most popular grilling competition in Miami, known as the Asado Argentino. This year, I am fortunate enough to say that I will be judging that same competition.

I am most proud of having 24 different empanada flavors and recipes that all were created, crafted, and cooked by me every day.

My biggest goal right now is to create collaborations between myself and fellow restaurant owners in the Kendall area to promote small and local businesses. I do not believe in competition amongst other reputable restaurants, I believe there is enough room for all of us to prosper and grow together!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Everything is a challenge, but there is no challenge too big to not execute. It is generally hard to run a business, but with love and passion, anything is possible!

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Los Tanitos Restaurant – what should we know?
Los Tanitos Restaurant was opened in 2012, shortly after closing Che Tano (founded 1992) by Sergio Dilorenzo and Carla Dilorenzo. Los Tanitos specializes in Argentine cuisine with a variety of dishes, empanadas, pastries, and high-quality meat options in their meat market! Los Tanitos is most known for the immense variety of empanadas and selling Certified Angus Beef. What sets Los Tanitos apart from other businesses is that they support local and family-owned businesses when ordering produce, products, and merchandise. Los Tanitos takes the most pride in making everything in house: from the chimichurri to the bread being served at tables. Los Tanitos is most proud of: quality over quantity, and very proud to have been in business for over 27 years!

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My father and mentor, Emidio Dilorenzo, has played an immense role in everything I do in the kitchen. My father has taught me anywhere from how to make sausages from scratch, butchering meat, and cooking on open fire and grilling. My brother and business partner, Sergio Dilorenzo, who was taught by my father and right by my side, has also played a great role in my culinary career.

My mother. She is my number one supporter in everything I do! And I have to thank her for always being there for me and guiding me in all of my crazy endeavors.

I would also like to give credit to Certified Angus Beef for inviting me to several chef summits and making me a brand ambassador. If it weren’t for Certified Angus Beef, I would not be reminded every day why I love doing what I do!
