Meet Buki The Warrior in North Miami Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Buki The Warrior.

Buki, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Growing up, I never really saw people my size really stand out to make a difference in embracing our bodies. We’re usually made fun of, or in most cases, even today, we’re usually the funny fat character: Not really much of a badass role model. I started modeling because I wanted to create a badass role in the sense that with my size, I’m capable of doing anything I put my heart into. I wanted to be a voice, to reach out to anyone with any insecurities, that you should never listen to what anyone says about yourself. You are your own person. And we, ourselves, should be the only people in changing our own lives. Embracing who we are regardless of how we may look like.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
In the beginning, it was tough getting into the modeling scene because you don’t really get to see plus-size models available in Miami as much. Especially with my style of modeling, I think it was hard at first to get peoples attention whether they were interested in my work or not. So, I had to find a way to stand out and be different, which didn’t take long, because it’s what I’m known for now: being different and creative.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
My form of modeling, I would say is not your normal style of modeling. I’ve combined modeling with things such as cosplaying, masks, and face painting. These were all influences growing up and also traveling. Seeing all these different styles inspired what I wanted to do as a plus size male and formed it into what I do now.

I’m known to be the guy with smoke grenades, crazy face painting and wild posing here in Miami. I think that’s one of the things I’m proud of since I’ve started modeling. Having people see who I am and what I do and love that I do it, is such an honor and motivates me to do more. I wouldn’t be doing this if it weren’t for the support that everyone has for me.

Do you feel luck has played a role in your life?
I think being completely different and showing something new to the table was my luck within all this. If I hadn’t combined so many different styles within my work, I feel I wouldn’t have been known as much as I am now or even had the opportunity to work with the creatives that I’ve worked with during this journey. Being different is my luck through all this
