Today we’d like to introduce you to Briana Jones.
Briana, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have been professionally modeling for a little under seven months. I started modeling on accident if I’m being honest. I was walking home from a night out with my friends and I saw this guy walking around Clematis Street wearing a camera and body gear to record with a huge flash. As I was walking by him, I jokingly told him “to make sure he got my good side.” He ended up following me down the entire length of the street and recorded me in a still video format. I still have the video on my Instagram page. That night we exchanged information and the very next day him and I had a photo shoot at a local pub. He gave me such great feedback and allowed me access to the pictures so I could start a portfolio. Because of him, I learned a new love of being behind a camera.
Please tell us about your work.
As a professional model, no shoot or gig is the same. Which is something that highly appealed to me? I used to watch America’s Next Top Model when I was younger and would make fun of the models who would stand in front of the mirror and change their facial expressions as an exercise. Now that I’m in the same industry, I have become the person I used to make fun of. I sit in the mirror at least 10 minutes a day and practice facial expressions to make sure I’m “serving faces,” as the other models put it. Since I started modeling in November, I have done a handful of music videos, working with local artist such as Maluma and meeting new and creative artist from South Beach and Fort Lauderdale. I’ve done several commercials; runway shows and have been published twice in Elite Daily and Madamnoire. I feel like my biggest asset and what I’m known for the most is my hair. I have a very unique look, which I think this industry is finally starting to capitalize on… natural hair. I’m most proud of myself for getting this far. When I talk to other models who have been in this industry for years, even they have told me that I am booking more than most. I am working on a lot of new things with people all over the country. I’m excited to see what the future holds.
How would you describe the type of kid you were growing up?
Growing up, I always felt like the oddball. My hair was part of the reason for that. I used to move around a lot. Almost every 2 years. I’ve lived in six different states and attended 5 high schools before graduating in West Boca Raton. I have been living in West Palm for almost four years now and this location has been the longest I’ve ever stayed in one place- in my entire life. I love west palm and don’ t see myself leaving anytime soon. In school, I loved history. I took all AP classes and loved jumping back in time to learn about our pasts. Still, to this day, I love to read articles about Ancient Egypt and previous rulers over the centuries. Nowadays, if I’m not working my first job, or modeling- my nose is in a book or I’m busy singing horrible covers to songs and praying no one ever sees how badly I sound.
