Meet Brandy Henry-Linton of Young Bird Book Series in Fort Lauderdale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandy Henry-Linton.

Brandy, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
As a child, my mother would tell me about not only the importance of reading but also how reading could take you to another place or even another world. From the moment I picked up a book, the world around me changed and I was captivated by reading any and everything that I could get my hands on. That love blossomed into writing about my own feelings, thoughts and ideas about my life and the world around me.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Becoming an author was always a dream from my teenage years but when I became a mother at the age of 20, my focus shifted to my son. It took me stumbling upon a few pages I had written years later and playing around with it to get me to where I am today, a published author. It hasn’t always been the easiest journey. What started out as a little something for my friends to read became me burning the midnight oil and falling asleep on top of my laptop many nights, questioning whether I could actually do it (while then being a mother of two boys) and doubting my own abilities. But thankfully, with the love and pushing of my mother and husband, I did it! Now pregnant with my third son; while it’s still hard, I trust in my abilities much more now.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
The Young Bird Book Series is a three-part book series that focuses on the highs and lows of a young woman trying to figure out her life. The main character Kymora is telling you her story in her very own special way. She’s smart, fun, sassy and some would say mean-but I would like to think she’s straightforward. In her story, you get to see her life as she sees it and you get to determine whether she’s lying to herself or to her audience.

It’s a captivating story and many women who have read it-young and old have told me they’ve seen some of themselves or even share the same feelings as the character. It’s definitely a cliff hanger!

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I believe anyone in any area is capable of doing something they love in a place that’s familiar or unfamiliar. Starting is always the easiest part. It’s finishing that’s always the hardest. Do what you love and you’ll be amazed at how it flourishes!
