Meet Ben Myerow and Ari Zebersky of Sunshine Gameday

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ben Myerow and Ari Zeberskyy.

Ben and Ari, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Ari and I always had a passion for sports. We would go to games, watch them on TV and talk about them constantly. Sports were not the only thing we had in common, in fact, we both loved giving back to the community. Volunteering at many organizations was great, but none included our passion, sports.

After discussion, we both came to the conclusion that we wanted to create our own non-profit. We collaborated and eventually came to the idea that we wanted to spread our love of attending sporting events with the underprivileged youth of South Florida. The name Sunshine Gameday was perfect because our goal was to brighten the lives of these kids by bringing them to sporting events.

We started contacting teams and orphanages/kids clubs to set up our events. Since then we have had nearly 20 events and helped host toy drives all over the country with athletes such as Tyreek Hill and Michael Oher. The charity has proved to not only be a benefit for the youth of South Florida but for Ari and I as well, because we know we have made a difference in our area.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road for us has been relatively smooth, but like any business, there are always obstacles. There have been some struggles. One main problem was always our struggle to communicate with the teams being that their inboxes were always flooded and they were occasionally hard to reach.

Also, the main obstacle came during one of our first events. After organizing the entire event Ari and I drove to Coral Gables and waited over an hour for the kids to show up to our event. After waiting, we realized that they weren’t coming and nobody from the organization would answer our calls.

All of these obstacles have helped us grow as a charity and have helped us understand that everything will not be perfect, so we have to do our best to adapt to all obstacles thrown our way.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Sunshine Gameday story. Tell us more about the business.
Our goal has been and is still to brighten the lives of South Florida youth. Ari and I always enjoyed going to sporting events, and we wanted to spread that joy with kids who have never experienced it before.

What sets us apart from many other organizations is that we interact with all the kids we take to the events and talk to them about their lives. Something else that sets us apart is that we started this charity as high school juniors and have brought it to what it is today.

Tell us about your favorite and least favorites things about our city.
The best part about our city is the culture and the people. This also includes diversity as everyone comes from all over the world and contribute to making the city what it is today. One of my least favorite part of the city is nothing, I feel as if this is one of the best cities in the country.
