Meet Astrid Vatterodt of MIAMOR in South Miami

Today we’d like to introduce you to Astrid Vatterodt.

Astrid, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
At MIAMOR, we like to say that many adventures start with a single step and in our case a text. I always had the idea of creating a local brand for women made by women to empower women and the vision to give back to Miami. I sent Stephanie a text with the MIAMOR logo and her answer came promptly: “I get the goosebumps!” When she told me that, meanwhile she had started to sell colorful bracelets besides her successful career with her own real estate company our future was sealed. I opened my company and asked her if she wanted to engage in my Project of the Heart: Miamor. It seemed totally crazy because our adventure started with 5 bucks in my wallet and some savings but Stephanie simply said “Yes!” We just love this city. The rest is a love story we have been telling since 2017. We bring people together by creating favorite pieces that remind us of special moments.

Miamor uses real materials like silver, semi-precious stones and crystals mainly handmade because we believe that friendship is special. Our motto is summer, sun, beach and ocean and magic which influences the style of our products. Every time someone shares an item we can inspire someone together by giving part of our profits to projects in our community. Fairness and Sustainability are important. We stand for fair pay and as a result, special things are being created in limited editions. Caring for special things is automatically protecting our planet. “Last but not Least” we live up to our name, because it not only bears the three letter code of the City of Miami “MIA” in itself but also means “My love” in Spanish. That is our philosophy every day because all the things we do; we put a lot of love into it…

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Of course, not! But what can you learn? Never lose courage and work with the recourses you have.
Sometimes, we laugh so much about our beginnings with first photo shoots with Stephanie modeling and me with an iPhone behind the scenes. We drove all over Miami and the beaches. Spent hours and hours on social media, running to markets sourcing our materials and finding great women who make our bracelets, being our customer service, sales, and PR department at the same time. Stephanie running her own company at the same time and myself finding the balance between such a project and family life. We would not trade for anything though and feel blessed we got another woman, Alex, our creative director on board who visualizes every single idea about Miamor.

Thank goodness because I personally cannot draw a tree. 😉

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the MIAMOR story. Tell us more about it.
That is simple. We love to create special moments and connect people and our most important ingredient is the magic of Miami! We love to be carefree but not careless. Miamor has its own philosophy. Enjoy – Share – Inspire which means enjoy something special, share something special and let’s inspire together by giving back.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and your work?
Good luck or bad luck is part of the game. Always.
