Meet Aroon and Megan Duncanson of Livin’ the MAD Life in Miami Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aroon and Megan Duncanson.

Megan and Aroon, please share your story with us.
Ever since I was a little girl, living out in the bush of Alaska, I have had a knack for art. I would get most of my inspiration from the nature that was around me (because that’s all there really was) and I would sketch and color in coloring books.

Fast forward 15 years, after I received my Masters in Political Science with an emphasis on gender theory. And I picked back up my love for art and began selling originals off of eBay. Since then I have been a full-time artist, and I work with over 40 different licensing companies. My art can be found on shower curtains, bedding, phone cases, pretty much anything, and pretty much everywhere. I have my art located in Target, Nordstrom, Urban Outfitters, Home Goods and a lot more.

One thing led to another, and my daughter, Aroon, and I decided to start a company together. We are both into fashion and Aroon wanted to create something that would be appealing to the vegan community. Therefore, we decided to start Livin’ the MAD Life, a vegan, high-end purse line. All of the designs and art are by me and Aroon manages the rest. We started in January of 2018 and couldn’t be more happy with our company.

Has it been a smooth road?
Aroon Duncanson – Considering we just started in January of 2018, it has been a relatively smooth road so far. (knock on wood.) My mom has run her own business for the last 15 years and is very experienced when it comes to most things that come along with starting your own company. She has taught me a lot about the website design and how to sell online, etc, which I think can be the biggest struggle when first starting out.

I also have my degree in Advertising/Public Relations, which has really helped in other aspects. So far, so good!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Livin’ the MAD Life – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Livin’ the MAD Life is a mother-daughter owned company based in Miami, Florida. Megan Duncanson is the founder, artist, and designer for the brand. We have a series of different collections, one being our hand painted line; which consists of up cycled and hand painted purses. The rest of our purses are manufactured and printed on with some of Megan’s original artwork.

All of our pieces are free of any animal product, making them vegan. Vegan fashion, especially for purses is one of the hardest things to shop for. There are not a lot of companies offering vegan options and we wanted to change that.

Megan is also big in the female empowerment movement and wanted to create art that was more meaningful, which is why she created her own set of empowering symbols that are designed into our different purses.

Our goal is to create empowering, one of a kind, luxury purses that are also vegan, something that can not be offered anywhere else.

We also made it our mission to donate to nonprofits that align with our mission, therefore we have two charities that we donate a portion of our proceeds to. We want to make sure we are giving back to those who need it the most.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Megan – Miami is one of the best cities to be for an artist, there’s inspiration everywhere and when you are in the field of art that is something you can never have enough of. Both Aroon and I are also huge water lovers, we love to go paddle boarding, snorkeling and to the beach, things that are easily found here in Miami.

I have lived all over Florida and Alaska, and Miami has to be my favorite city thus far. And I don’t have plans of leaving anytime soon!

As long as there is sunshine, I’m happy!
