Today we’d like to introduce you to Arianna and Liliana Garcia.
So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Liliana: This all started as a big career jump from being a teacher for Miami Dade county public schools for ten plus years. I threw myself at the idea of continuing to do what I love but at a more personal level, so I started to help students and parents by supporting and reinforcing the things they learn in school and soon after school care classroom of four students became many classrooms with around one hundred students.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Many obstacles. Whether it is personalizing and finding ways to motivate students to want to learn, or getting a student to become a more fluent reader, whether it was educating parents on our school systems, or simply learning as you go how to run a business.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Open Mind Learning and Fine Arts – what should we know?
We are an academic after school care program. We specialize in improving grades, teaching a lot of students who come from Spanish speaking families how to read, write, and speak English. We specialize in creating an environment that works well with the student’s actual teachers so that we can work together and reinforce what they learn everyday. We take pride in the way we personalize and adjust for each student that walks through our doors and I believe that’s what sets us apart the most.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
We are a family-owned business but most important lot we thank the families and students that trust us everyday.
