Today we’d like to introduce you to Anny Noratto.
Anny, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was born in Colombia and diagnosed with a chronic inflammatory disorder at a very early age. After many years of researching treatments and care options, I discovered yoga to be the best prescription for my condition. My symptoms have been non-existent since I began practicing yoga more than 15 years ago. With the support of my family, friends, and peers I took yoga to the next level by becoming a certified instructor. In 2013 successfully completed the 200 – hour Basic Registered Yoga Teacher training and then I quickly moved on to complete my 500 – hour Advanced Yoga Teacher certification. I am always training and learning on a daily basis while sharing the healing science of yoga with others. Yoga and meditation have helped me tremendously in my healing journey. Through yoga, I have found physical, emotional and spiritual healing. I am reminded that we each have everything that we need inside of us and yoga cultivates the skill of going ‘inside’ and listening to our own intuition and guidance.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No really, especially when you have an inflammatory condition (rheumatoid arthritis in my case), basically you need to go beyond yourself to heal and learn to know your body in a very deep level. The few outbreaks that I have had in my life have been exhausting mentally, emotionally and physically but then is when you need to remind yourself that your body has a natural balance and you need to search for that. Yoga is such a beautiful path but also you will be facing your deepest fears and you also will be face to face with that “ugly” part that most of us try to avoid.
Please tell us about AN Yoga Movement.
I decided to open my company almost two years ago. My idea is to take yoga, meditation, mobility (basically a healthy lifestyle) to as many people I can reach. My travels (one of my passions) taught me a lot about myself and my condition then I got to a point in my life where I found “the balance” in my body, my mind, and my spirit and I started fighting, believing and working to make my dreams come true, then everything started coming to reality I said to myself “I need to teach people how to do this because I know from experience that it is possible.” At that point, I decided to create my first yoga retreat, and it’s been such an amazing and fulfilling experience.
Also beside my company I have the honor and the pleasure to work for Baptist Hospital of South Florida as a yoga instructor, we reach so many people that are learning and understanding how to incorporate not only yoga but any kind of exercise into their daily life, they are learning that we all need to pause, reconnect, breath and that life is not only working 8 hours behind a desk.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Nothing. I am here because of all the experiences and all the people in my path.
