Meet Andrea Flores of Drea Flow Creative in West Hialeah

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Flores.

Andrea, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
During my time as a student majoring in Fashion Merchandising at AI Miami International University of Art & Design, I was typically first to sign-up as a backstage volunteer for fashion shows. I love everything about the behind-the-scenes of fashion: photoshoots, marketing, production & events — you name it! It was here that my interest to dive into the marketing world developed. As a fresh-out-of-college-21-year-old who needed to pay her student loan debts right away, I thought working in corporate was the answer.

Social Media back in 2010 wasn’t nearly close to what it is today — I was right at the start of it working my way through various companies as a Marketing Assistant, Coordinator, Editor, and Manager. I barely ever made a full year in any of my jobs because nothing felt right or challenging enough to keep me on my toes. I sought out a creative outlet and launched a personal style & beauty blog, where I had full editorial control and creative freedom. Here I began to dabble even more with photography, prop styling, strategy, and broadening my editing skills.

While working full time, my photography “side hustle” kicked off! Taking client calls during my lunch breaks, weekend photoshoots, and working late nights editing. Intuitively, I knew it was time to give this a shot full throttle and here we are officially as an all-around-the-clock creative-preneur (creative entrepreneur).

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Absolutely…not! Being your own boss comes with a lot of ups & downs not just business-wise but mentally as well. It could be very easy to spiral down this never-ending comparison road and negative thinking.

Also, income could be very inconsistent at times. Disciplining yourself to save, practice self-care, make time for friends & family, plus all else is a true balancing act. I’ve experienced working with difficult clients or clients who don’t pay on time. Despite the struggles, each and every one of them is always worth it. To believe and know you are doing what you love is an unexplainable feeling of freedom, ambition, and determination.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Drea Flow Creative story. Tell us more about the business.
Drea Flow Creative derived from my nickname ‘Drea’ and the unison of my last name ‘Flores’ and the way creative energy ‘flows’. It is a service that specializes to develop content with Marketing in mind. Say you have a campaign in the works that need photography for web, social media, or print — we’d sit together to discuss (or design) a creative strategy and take it from there.

My service sets itself apart as it revolves around still life, yoga/wellness, and lifestyle product photography. Because there’s a deeper understanding of marketing needs and trained eyes from a photographer, this helps initiate trust and exploration between client and myself.

I’m most proud of the partnerships and resourcefulness my brand & service excels in. From pre-production brainstorming, curating photography sets, to post-production editing — it’s a one-stop content shop!

What do you know now that you wish you knew when you were just starting out?
I used to think about this a lot in the past — questions like, why did I choose to stumble onto the corporate world instead of interning more for agencies & production companies or maybe it would’ve been better to leave Florida and study elsewhere. But, could’ve, should’ve, would’ve right?

Truth is, I wouldn’t change my path. Every experience and decision has led me here and has helped sharpen my eye, creative thinking, personality, and more. I’m a true believer that everything happens for a reason and cannot imagine it any other way. I am grateful for ultimately discovering my true passion.
