Meet Andrea Baridon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Baridon.

Andrea, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
The chances of being born in Uruguay are pretty slim, so I always asked myself why was I born here? What is so magical about this place that took me to be born in such a small country with 3 million habitants. I started questioning myself about life, the meaning of life, the force of nature and energies especially energies. While I was in high school, I started experimenting with photography and colors. I wanted to let people see the beauty in things, to let them feel something, which is what I live for.

After high school, I decided to move to Miami to study Fine Arts. I found another passion, electronic music that abstract sound that resonates with me inside, my soul opened a portal to an empty space where my mind went blank and the colors and forms would manifest in the canvas to evoke a feeling on the viewer.
When I finished my BFA at Miami International University of Art and Design, I worked at a gallery in Wynwood where I learned a lot about other art movements and the art world. Simultaneously, I was still painting and with some friends, we started curating an underground music party at my art studio. We took the party to some of Miami’s best clubs such as Bardot, Electric Pickle, and Floyd. I was in charge of the visual identity of the party, so I was experimenting with design and art direction. That is when I decided to start the Art Direction program at Miami Ad School. I started realizing that I could make people feel something similar to what I was doing with my art but with advertising. It is all about the concept of the idea and how you communicate it. I was thinking not only campaign ideas but innovative ideas for products. Bringing them to life and make them look good was my job and a job that I love doing.

While I was at Miami Ad School, I had the opportunity to do different creative internships in agencies such as 360i in NY, Virtue the creative agency by VICE in Berlin and SapientRazorfish in Miami. I am grateful for the opportunities that the school gave me and the mentors I met along the way. Living and working in different cities helped me shape my vision and open my mind. I worked with amazing individuals from around the world and we even won some of the most prestigious awards in the Ad world like Summit Award, Future Lions, Communication Arts, Graphis, among others.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Following your passion and starting a new life in another country definitely comes with struggles. A new culture, way of living and being away from the support of my friends and family at such a young age was hard. But I wouldn’t change a thing about my path everything that I experienced helped me shape who I am today. Also, the confidence in your self and your work is a key element in such a competitive field as it is advertising and design. One thing I learned is that the only way of becoming really good at what you do is to constantly create new things every day.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am a creative, art director and artist. Truly inspired by art and music, I aim to create bespoke concepts and ideas that can improve the way we think as a collective society. I want to inspire others and let them feel emotions when they see my work. I try to do this by enhancing different sensations and provoking thoughts that challenge the way we see things. I am known for my creatively organized style, I like my work being an idea, painting or design piece to be different in my own style where the viewer can see a different type of beauty.

Is there a quality or characteristic that has played an outsized role in your success?
I think that a combination of willpower, being persistent, a good attitude and being passionate about my work are the key elements to my success. When you put your energy into something you love and you are consistent, it will find the way to manifest itself.
