Today we’d like to introduce you to Aileen Lavin.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have always worked. Whether it was in retail or owning my own stationery store, I always felt the need to work.
After getting married and having children, I realized I needed a job that provided me with flexible hours to allow me to raise my children. This brought me to start my real estate career. Shortly thereafter, I found that I had a real passion for properties, and finding my clients their dream home. I have been selling real estate for the past 4 years, and despite the flexible hours, as a mom of three, I found it difficult to find the time to network and meet potential new clients.
When I did attend a networking event, they were typically male dominated, and I found it increasingly difficult to connect with potential clients who understood my lifestyle, and how it impacted my profession. I walked away from these events wishing that I could associate with other like minded women who were focused on achieving their goals in business, and interested in building professional and personal relationships.
Unable to find a networking group that met my needs, I started my own women’s only networking group, Ladies Who Launch (“LWL”). LWL was designed to bring together the entrepreneurial woman who was looking to build up their professional and social network. Four months after starting LWL, we grew to over 700 members, and now boast well over 1000. We hold monthly events that feature guest speakers or panels comprising of successful women sharing their stories, providing helpful business tips and inspiring our members to achieve their own business success.
After each member event, it became increasingly clear that our women members were as driven as ever to succeed in their respective businesses. The overwhelming response seemed to be that our members thrived in this women’s only, entrepreneurial setting, and I wanted to provide our members and all women with this platform.
This led me to found a women’s only co-working space and social club, “The Emery”. The Emery will be home to a community of strong, vibrant women, working in pursuit of their goals to become business and social leaders. The Emery will be a space in which women will be able to confidently and comfortably focus on their daily tasks. We will provide our members with the space to work, the opportunity to collaborate and network, and the ability for women to grow their businesses and passion projects while building meaningful relationships.
In today’s social climate, women are not just simply finding their voice, they are shouting back. Alone women can be successful, together women can change the world.
Has it been a smooth road?
Fortunately, it has been an amazing experience. Our membership has been growing exponentially. I have met and connected with so many wonderful women and have been overwhelmed by the positive response.
We’d love to hear more about your business.

What role has luck (good luck or bad luck) played in your life and business?
I believe that we make our own luck. In my life, I have put myself in the position to succeed, and believe that through hard work and preparation, you can accomplish your goals. I plan to open future locations of the Emery all over South Florida.
