Meet Adam Gittlin of JKG Group in Deerfield Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adam Gittlin.

Adam, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
JKG Group was established as a commercial printer in 1984 in Boca Raton. Our family — led by my father, Bruce Gittlin and uncle, Bob Gittlin — purchased the company more than 30 years ago, and in 2014, relocated our combined headquarters and manufacturing plant to a spacious, modern facility in Deerfield Beach. Bruce oversaw management of the firm, while Bob led business development efforts. Together, they built a robust business and, as the industry evolved, they added related services including direct mail, fulfillment and kitting, and custom product packaging. All three divisions have grown substantially in recent years and represent a large share of our revenue and my vision is to continue to grow the company in ways that make sense for us and meet our clients’ needs. Over the past decade, we’ve made sure that we have evolved in sync with the changing industry and added services the market needs.

I took over the business as president in 2015, when my father passed away and was fortunate to inherit a team of seasoned professionals who direct our plant production, logistics, account management, creative services and financial operations. I haven’t seen the need to change a single one. My mother, Ethel, continues to retain an active interest in the company and is also, a talented artist. Some of her paintings hang in our headquarters as well as in several New York City locations. My own avocation is creative writing and I’ve had four novels published — all crime thrillers set in the cut-throat world of commercial real estate in New York City.

I see a very bright future for JKG Group as we continue to infuse our operations with advanced technologies and bring our clients new services and features. As one of several examples, we offer clients customized “e-stores” on our secure, proprietary MarCommand platform. These e-stores enable clients to offer their employees, partners, branches and franchises their branded items, printed materials, assembled product kits, direct mailers, business cards, logo apparel and more. They can be pulled from inventory or generated on demand, and shipped anywhere. It’s quick, convenient and completely online.

We’ve also introduced very creative uses of QR codes in client direct mail programs, and we’re using augmented reality to help our clients tell their stories in fresh and engaging new ways.

Has it been a smooth road?
Like any 34-year-old business, we’ve had our ups and downs. Sometimes, we’ve struggled with company culture. In other cases, there was no vision to expand the business, whether through reinvestment or M&A—both of which we’ve done recently. The business itself is capital intensive, requiring intelligent investment in equipment and software as well. It has a lot of moving parts, literally and figuratively. Every employee must keep a keen eye on every piece of work, to make sure that every client gets our best effort. Fortunately, we’ve assembled a great team of skilled, knowledgeable people and that’s what keeps it all humming.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the JKG Group story. Tell us more about the business.
JKG Group helps businesses achieve great marketing results and ROI. Our specialties are high-performance commercial printing, well-designed product packaging, on-time fulfillment services and highly effective direct mail programs. We also provide display and exhibit support and promotional items, and we’re constantly adding new services to meet evolving market needs. Everything we do is driven by leading edge technologies and supported by agile online systems.

We just recently renewed our G7 Master Printer certification, which speaks to color consistency and print quality, and we also maintain compliance with regulations governing the shipping of various personal care products.

One of our specialties is custom product packaging and we’ve developed some stunning package designs for well-known cosmetics and beauty products firms, as well as for some very creative start-ups. In 2016, the global market for personal care packaging alone topped $25 billion and it’s expected to reach $34.3 billion by 2022. It’s a huge and growing market, and one we’re continuing to invest in. Whether products are sold in store or online, they require packaging that protects the product, communicates its value and captures the imagination.

In addition to producing quality work on time and on budget, three things set us apart at JKG Group. First, is our deep passion for innovation, which keeps us exploring and creating and pushing the limits to do it better and faster. Second, is our ingrained can-do attitude, which helps overcome the obstacles that often arise during the course of a project. Third, is the expertise we bring to every job, along with more than 2,000 years of combined experience in various aspects of the industry. These success factors enable us to provide our clients with quality products and services that help them be more successful.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least about our city?
South Florida is culturally rich and diverse. We have an island vibe, thanks to the proximity of the Caribbean and as the gateway to Central and South America, a distinctive Latin character. The area is also home to an amazing spectrum of international restaurants representing myriad countries and cuisines. The business environment is vibrant and encourages entrepreneurial ventures while enabling companies to grow, thrive and prosper over the long term. On the downside, as a crazy-quilt melting pot at the very southeastern tip of the country, we also bump up against language and cultural barriers and a wild-west kind of lawlessness (as evidenced by a prevalent disregard for driving rules and stranger-than-fiction crime stories).
