Today we’d like to introduce you to Janessa Suarez.
Janessa, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’m a Latin woman, of Cuban descent, who was born and raised in the beautiful city of Miami. I have always had a passion for people and have always enjoyed networking and getting to know others. Social media is a platform where I’ve been able to connect with others not only locally, but internationally as well. I chose the name Littlejanessa because, if you have ever met me, I’m very petite. However, for those of you who have intimately been a part of my life know I have a huge heart. I don’t necessarily have a brand, but I do represent many, working as a promotional specialist for Bacardí and as a brand ambassador for other companies. In addition to my promotional life, I’m studying to become a Physician Assistant so I can continue to assist and educate well-being through medicine to others. In short, because of the diverse people I’ve met throughout my life, all my amazing travels, and the guidance and support of my incredible family and friends, are the reason why I have grown to be the woman I am today.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
In my opinion, it’s never a smooth road. Life isn’t easy, you just have to find a way to overcome the obstacles that block your way. However, all obstacles and failures are a blessing. Failures build a thicker skin and each one has a lesson behind it. I’ve had many situations where I’ve felt I can’t do more and discouraged but having faith and knowing there’s a bigger plan for you in the long run, always helps me see the silver lining in everything. Your time will come, it just takes certain people longer to get there.
Please tell us about your work.
So, I’m a promotional specialist for Bacardí and also a brand ambassador for other companies. However, I mainly work with Bacardí and their brands. I have been working with them for two years now and it’s incredible, to say the least. I admire everything about the company and so lucky to work with some of the greatest girls. Everyone has the same passion and I feel that’s what makes the brand so special. As a “social influencer,” whether it’s through social media or in my personal life, everyone knows me for my love of food (specifically cookies), fashion, and travel. I feel my biggest accomplishment, promoting myself, would be influencing others to get out of their comfort zone and just take risks! The only way to learn and grow as a person is through our mistakes and exploring new things and places. I’m only 25 and have visited 23 different countries and counting… sometimes, it’s hard and you may make excuses for yourself on why you can’t do things, but there is always a way. That’s what I also feel sets me apart from others. I’ve always been the type to not only be a part of these memorable experiences but I encourage others to be a part of it with me. I always strive to share all the beautiful things I’ve learned throughout my journey and don’t turn away from those who ask me about it.
Often it feels as if the media, by and large, is only focused on the obstacles faced by women, but we feel it’s important to also look for the opportunities. In your view, are there opportunities that you see that women are particularly well positioned for?
I feel we should treat every opportunity as something we can be well positioned for. Some of us are great at certain things and some of us aren’t. You just have to try and take a risk to really figure out what you’re not only the greatest at, but what you’re most passionate about as well.
