Hi Diamond, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Growing up I was always told that the arts weren’t profitable and was discouraged from following any dream in that direction. After a failed attempted at college, and dealing with various traumatic situations I fell on painting to express my feelings. In 2018 I started by just playing with colors and shapes and beginning the journey of finding my style. Once people showed interest in buying my work, I felt I found where I belong. I battled my anxiety to start showing my work at events and growing. I learned that art is not only an outlet but a gateway to amazing relationships and that I had support behind me. The Summer of 2019 I started making Earrings from shrink plastic and it has grown wildly from what I could Imagine. Every piece has been unique and found homes with amazing humans. Making Earrings has giving me a new way to express myself; my love for colors, oblong shapes, and faces. While I also experiment with different mediums of painting and Digital art to express and share emotions in a healthy way.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as relatively smooth road?
Not at all. I started off very anxious, which made it hard to communicate and work with others. I had a lot of self-doubt when my pieces wouldn’t sell or if I didn’t reach goals that I felt I should’ve reached. My mentality behind my work and my self-confidence where some of my biggest enemies. Plus, I think I feared entering the art world in a way, “will I be accepted?”.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I do stylized Figurative pieces that range in mediums. Some of my favorite to work with are Digital, Acrylic and Oil Pastels. I think I am known most for my Digital illustrations. Because it can be a lot faster to use, and portable I tend to use it Primarily. I am very proud of my Largest Painting at 3 feet of a Royal Heir walking out of Berry bushes titled “Enchantress”. I think what sets me apart is my style, I’ve developed a something you see and know was made by me.
What matters most to you?
My Grandmother, she has supported me a lot along the way when I felt no one else did. My grandmother runs her own cleaning business and is someone I look up to and ask for advice almost every day. She makes me feel very proud at every milestone I’m able to make through my journey.
