Today we’d like to introduce you to Allie LaSorte.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Allie. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I graduated from The University of Alabama with a degree in communications. From there, I went on to do marketing for various companies, but I just couldn’t picture myself doing that forever. Skincare was my true passion, but I was too afraid of change and too afraid to fail. That was, until August 13th, 2017 when my entire world changed.
I was on the phone with my parents while they were driving home from the store when they were struck by an intoxicated driver. My mom, who was my best friend and the reason why I loved skincare so much, died. From that day forward, I decided to to go after my passions, go back to school and never spend another day not doing what I love.
About halfway through my schooling, I decided to create a skincare Instagram @skinglowdiaires. I originally created it as a way to show my work and gain a following for when I graduated. But then, I began taking photos of products and fell in love with the artistic process of it all. I began pushing myself to be more creative with each shot and found myself wanting to learn everything that I could about photography.
From there, my following began to grow. It was amazing to see how many people cared about what I had to say. Now, some of the brands whose products I grew up loving are even asking me to collaborate with them, which is so gratifying!
I’m nowhere near where I want to be, and still learning the ins and outs each and every day, but I love it!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It certainly hasn’t been a smooth road. I have no background in photography or design whatsoever. The only camera I had ever really used was my iPhone. So, learning about everything from the different camera lenses to the settings needed for each shot has definitely been a learning curve. It can also be intimidating at times, putting so much work into my account, but seeing others having millions of followers and wondering whether I’ll ever get there. I just have to remind myself that I’ve only been at this for six months, and anything worth having takes time and determination.
My advice to others starting out is: There will be setbacks in everything that you do, so make sure you do what you love. It really does make those discouraging times easier to fight through. And never let the fear of failure stop you from going after your passions.
Please tell us about SkinGlowDiaries.
I think the thing that sets me apart is I evaluate the products objectively and, with my training as a certified esthetician, I’m able to really give my followers useful information that will help them.
