Today we’d like to introduce you to Chandra Etienne.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I began my real estate career in late 2008, helping distressed homeowners perform loan modifications. During the height of the 2008-2009 market crash, I co-founded Foreclosure & Mortgage Resolution with my mother. Our company successfully assisted hundreds of homeowners to modify their mortgages and keep their homes! But due to the rise in real estate fraud during the recession, Florida laws changed and forced us to sell the company in 2010. Luckily, a family friend who was an attorney was able to purchase the company and I became head of the foreclosure department.
Between 2009-2012, I worked directly with banks, lenders, real estate attorneys, real estate agents and title companies to negotiate short sales and loan modifications for distressed homeowners. I was also a real estate paralegal and use information obtained through loss mitigation negotiations to draft motions, affidavits, addendums, pleadings, and court documents. During this time, I was able to build long-lasting relationships with real estate investors, which made it easy to transition to traditional real estate sales once the market started to improve in 2012 and I have been a full-time realtor since.
I have 3 degrees, including a Master’s degree in International Real Estate from Florida International University. I am the founder of The Core Brokered by EXP Realty. I am the 2021 President-Elect for Miami YPN at the Miami Association of REALTORS, a State Director and I am on three committees for the Florida Association of REALTORS and is a Director for the National Association of REALTORS. I was the recipient of the Miami YPN All-Star of the Year Award for 2019 by the Miami Association of REALTORS and was recently named as one of the 12 Women to Know in Real Estate in 2021 by Yahoo Finance.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It has not always been a smooth road. One of the biggest struggles I found is that due to the number of real estate agents in Miami, you have to be highly intentional with trying to stand out, make a name for yourself while not sounding like a sleazy car salesman. You have to be able to adapt – not only to market changes but also to changes in technologies, laws, industry disruptors, marketing guidelines and more. You have to know when and how to pivot and do it strategically in order to guarantee success.
