Inspiring Conversations with Benito Paul

Today we would like to introduce you to Benito Paul.

Hi Benito, we are thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was licensed as an insurance adjuster in 2009, took a step back, went into construction, became a General Contractor understanding the in’s and out’s about construction. After a few years of that, I became a Roofing Contractor. With all the knowledge that I got from the construction industry, I went back into the insurance industry, writing estimates for law firms and other public adjusting firms. As an insurance adjuster, I remember the training that we got and wanted to reach out and help the public with getting their insurance claims settled. In my time, I have settled millions in insurance claims and as an adjuster and appraiser.

Many people do not know about this, but the beginning was tough and required true sacrifices, so for two years, I drove back and forth to Panama City, writing estimates for my public adjuster clients leaving Miami at 1:30 in the morning and driving all the way to Panama City Florida. I was starting my appointments at 8 am to 4 pm and driving back home the same night. I admit it was not safe, but I did what I had to do to take care of my family.

I am sure you would not say it has been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
This not a smooth road. The struggles in this business managing expectation of the clients and we are in an industry that most people do not realize the importance of, there is a lot of miss information about public adjusters is hard getting people to understand they need us from the beginning. Most people say let me try with the insurance company first and they waste time and could possibly lose out on a claim getting paid because they do not understand. Or dealing with the fact the Miami is over-saturated with public adjuster now and some of them do sloppy work by telling be people they can get the amounts of money they did not even come close to, that gives our industry a bad name. These are some of the things I fight daily.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
You should know that I am a licensed Public Adjuster. That is important because a lot of people do not know you have to be licensed when it comes to talking to homeowners and business owners about coverage of their policy. I am also a licensed General Contractor and a licensed Roofing Contractor, with a background in construction and the ability to explain and justify why items should be paid and how long it would take a job to get done puts me up notch from every on else. I am most proud of being able to help people get six-figure checks from the insurance company that offered them small four-figure checks and get my clients what they need to get their life back on track. My brand is about putting the clients first, making sure I get them the maximum amount allowed for the claim. We have settled claims from 10k to 30 million, and all of them got the same great service.

What were you like growing up?
As a young kid, I was shy like most kids, but I knew at a young age I like a business. I sold candy and sandwiches to my friends. I liked basketball, football but I could play any of these sports because the doctor said I could not due to the fact I had heart surgery. Therefore, I was never able to try out for sports like all my friends did, so I learned how to play chess and got really good at it.
