Hidden Gems: Meet Madison Nuñez of Nude Velvet Skin Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Madison Nuñez.

Hi Madison, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
At the start of 2019, I launched a clean and minimalist skincare line called, Nude Velvet after discovering my passion for skin. It was a form of self-care for me and it helped me get through a tough season in my life where it seemed like nothing was going my way. Fast forward to March 2020, COVID shocked the world. The first industry to go was the Tourism industry, which is where I had been working for the past two years and was let go due to travel bans and shutdowns. I took this time to focus on myself and work on my passion project, Nude Velvet. At this time, Nude Velvet wasn’t at a place where I could consider myself “self-employed”, although that was the goal. I realized that I needed to bring something else to my brand where I can actually get into the faces of my customers and further educate them on their skin. Around October of 2020, I decided to use up my savings and enroll in an esthetics program. I quickly fell in love with esthetics and knew this would be a great investment toward my business. I went on to graduate just a few months later as a licensed esthetician.

In 2021, I knew I had to make a decision to either get a job with a spa or take a big risk and open up my own skin studio. Naturally, the entrepreneurial spirit in me decided to take a big risk! Opening up a small studio is no easy feat. I used up every last penny to purchase everything I needed to be able to perform professional facial services on clients, stock up on my product line, and all the not-so-fun but very important stuff like insurances and supplies. I worked day and night to make sure everything was in order for my grand opening week. During my grand opening week, I was overwhelmed with the amount of support from family, friends and even strangers. All the stress, tears and hard work paid off.

Looking back, losing my job was a blessing in disguise that led me to finally being able to live out my passion as a full-time entrepreneur in the skincare industry. If there is any lesson you can learn from my story, it should be to take those big risks!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not at all! I think the beauty of it is the fact that it will never be a smooth road. There are good days and there are not so good days, but each day is a lesson on how you can do better and improve. One of the biggest challenges I faced was not believing in myself, but I am so thankful to have a strong support system behind me that encourages me to keep going. Another challenge for me were finances. I had lost my job during the pandemic and relied on my savings to live and support my business. Nude Velvet is completely self-funded and I intend for it to remain that way. I had to budget and be smart when it came to spending, but the reality is that “Everything is figureoutable”. Having that mentality really made these challenges easier to navigate.

We’ve been impressed with Nude Velvet Skin Studio, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Nude Velvet Skin Studio is a skin and self-care studio that provides feel-good and result-driven facial treatments. I focus on a less is more approach in order to promote a strong and healthy skin barrier. I currently offer three different facial treatments that can be completely customized to your skin type and concerns, along with a variety of lovely facial add-ons such as high frequency, HydroJelly masks and enzyme peels.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Knowing that I am living out my passion makes me so happy! Growing up, my parents always told me that it is important to love what you do. I struggled to figure out what it was that I loved to do for so long. The truth is that my passion came to me at a time when I least expected it.
