Hidden Gems: Meet Kiana Francis of McCoy’s Beauty Boutique

Hi Kiana, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
In elementary school, I was selling candy, chips, Hot sausage… basically any snack you could think of. I was my school’s Plug for snacks. I continued the hustle until high school. During junior year of high school, I told myself I wanted to do something bigger. I became really fascinated with human hair extensions. I started off with only three bundles of hair. Once I sold those three bundles, I knew I had what it takes to be successful. Even though I started off with bundles, I wanted to expand and sell other items. I decided to start selling eye-wears. I continued to sell those two categories of items for about a year and a half. Around sophomore year of college, one of my friends at the time told me I should start a website. She told me it would be a more effective way to share my items with the public.

I always wanted to start a website, but I was scared I didn’t have the right tools to do so. Once my friend had made that suggestion, I decided to take a leap of Faith and create my website. One Saturday evening I started to research different website builders. I spent majority of that Saturday, creating my first official website. Once my website was lunched, I started to add other items, such as female tops and accessories. During the process, I gained tons of inspiration that made me want to extend my business to a boutique. I wanted my boutique to be a place where individuals could shop for great quality items at a reasonable price. Since the time I started, till now, I’ve increased my inventory by over 100 items.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
There were a few bumps along the way. There were times when I felt like giving up because I would go days without making a sale. I did not know it was normal for business owners to go days without making a sale when first starting out. I still didn’t give up because I believed in myself.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am currently a full-time student at Florida State University. I will be graduating spring 2021 with my accounting degree. I am known for my genuine, blissful, and bold personality. Something that sets me apart from the others is my determination and sense of style.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
My ability to be transparent in every situation.
