Daily Inspiration: Meet Ryan Anthony

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Anthony.

Hi Ryan, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Originally, I started out in Animation and went to school for Media Arts in Fort Lauderdale. I wrote for a comic series and toy line when I was in college and planned on ultimately working in animation. Everything changed when I got an opportunity at NBC Miami to intern and produce daily promos. I had taken a few classes in college for Video Editing, but it was here that I learned how to produce and edit. It was also where I first learned about DSLR cameras. Shortly after that, I started getting some video editing jobs, but found myself getting more and more production requests, so I decided to buy my first camera. After a few projects, I started working as a Media Producer for a small studio in Pompano Beach, FL and decided to go back to school to get my MFA in Film at Miami International University of Art & Design. I continued to work at the Pompano studio until graduation, when I landed a job as a Video Editor at HBO Latin America. During this entire time, I was still continuing to freelance and film small projects around South Florida. After a few years at HBO, I had an amazing opportunity that changed my life: to Direct/Produce a big-budget commercial. This project helped me to leave my job at HBO and start my own video production company based in Miami – Anthony Digital Media, LLC. Since then, I’ve worked with brands like Maxim, SLS, and Miami Heat, and have worked on tv shows like “Faster: Race The World”, “The John McAfee Project”, “Inside The Heat”, and “Road To F9”. I’m now specializing in brand-content, music videos, narrative, and commercial video production work.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. I don’t want to get into all the details, but I’ve had a lot of ups and downs and a lot of roadblocks along the way. A lot of self-doubt, and a lot of people not believing in my vision at first. Everyone has those problems when they want something deeply, but have no idea how to achieve it. I’ve worked hard, and have also been extremely lucky in the process by staying persistent and building on my goals. The key is that I stuck with my passion for filmmaking the entire time. There’s still a lot I want to accomplish. This is only the beginning.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a Director/Cinematographer who specializes in all forms of video production. As of right now, the projects I’m most proud of would probably be the work I did with the Miami Heat from 2017-2019. I was honored to have been a Producer for them for two seasons, working on their tv show “Inside The Heat” and producing/shooting/writing/editing a lot of their social media and in-arena content, which is where I feel I did some of my best work. I really expanded my knowledge and skill set there. I saw my work change after I left and took what I had learned along the way. I feel that my unique experience and visual concepts are what set me apart from the others. Because of technology, anyone can shoot high-quality video nowadays, but not everyone has the vision to make it unique and compelling, or the work ethic to create and follow through on the dream.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I’ve definitely had a lot of help along the way, whether it’s from teachers in college and grad school, or people that I’ve worked with. Not just learning skills and technical knowledge, but also how to treat people you’re working with. That’s a very important skill to learn when working in teams or with others: how to communicate properly with all members of the team, and a professional attitude with clients and crew members. Everyone I’ve ever worked with has taught me something unique and special along the way. Even with the negative lessons, there’s something to learn. I give credit to everyone I’ve worked with over the years for how my story turned out, and how I developed as a person.
