Daily Inspiration: Meet Melissa Mendez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Mendez.

Hi Melissa, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was born in Miami, Florida and moved to the Cape Coral área in high school. I made a name for myself here after working hard day in and day out as a nail tech and henna artist for the past 11 years. I love my business and as much as I wish I could say this is what I’ve always wanted to do my whole life, it wasn’t. I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life. I dropped out of community college after attending for one semester and went to nail school because I’ve always been passionate about beauty and the things that make us feel beautiful and stand out.

Once I graduated, I started working at a nail salon. Eventually, I decided to go out on my own & boy did I go out on my own! I picked up henna and began showcasing my art at local events in Miami for YesJulz, Miami Swim Week, Art Basel Events and more. I’ve serviced celebrities and I started building my clientele in Miami and I’m ready to take my hometown by storm.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Nothing in life is a smooth road. Everyone struggles in their own way. I have definitely lost my clientele due to having back surgery and had to rebuild my brand from scratch! It was hard and I cried myself to sleep more times than I can count BUT it wasn’t impossible and it was definitely worth it.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
What I love most about my work is how free and creative I can be! There is no wrong way of creating ART! I also get to meet so many different people with so many different inspiring stories; it’s truly an honor!

I believe what sets me apart from most is my knowledge. I believe anyone can make something look good but the foundation, the quality of the natural nail is very important in this industry. I’ve invested in my career and furthered my education so I can give my clients the best experience and proper aftercare instructions.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
What I love most about my city is how fast-paced it is, how everyone is constantly wanting to look their best! I believe when you look good, you feel good!
