Conversations with Monica Marder

Hi Monica, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Three years ago, I made a bold move to follow my passion. I quit my comfortable 9-5 job, and risked it all to start a business I believed in: FORM50 Fitness. When I dreamed up FORM50, I imagined something beyond a crazy good workout. I wanted to build a family of friends to support each other through an insanely challenging, sweaty, hard AF 50 minutes. So that’s exactly what we did, together. At FORM50 functional fitness is the core of our methodology, but it’s the vibe that brings it all to life. Our energy is as electric as our neon pink-lit doors. The good vibes we spark together make us stronger for life outside the studio. That’s what it’s all about. The FORM50 Fam is real, it’s strong and it’s for everybody, including you. I’m living proof that taking risks and believing in yourself can change your life. Anything’s possible.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Well… the saying is true, nothing good comes easy. Being a small owner business from NY during 2020 has been quite the challenge to say the least. FORM50 was open for 18 months before we were mandated to shut down, we were at peak, we had ramped the business up to exactly where we needed it to be and then boom, overnight everything changed, and my life was flipped upside down. With the support of my amazing team, close friends, and family we were able to get through it. There has certainly been a lot of frustration, BUT there was definitely a silver lining to all of it. I moved to Miami in May 2020 during the pandemic and the dream to open a second location did not stop. I worked rigorously, tirelessly, and sure enough found the perfect location in Midtown, Miami. The FREE parking lot really sealed the deal for me. Our doors are now open, and we have officially now opened in Midtown, Miami!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Most fitness studios with similar equipment teach a snooze fest Pilates class that leaves you completely underwhelmed, and while our equipment may have sisters, the FORM50 workout does not have twins. At FORM50 we do not lay down, pulse, or train in blocks. We are performance-based training facility, certified in the L.I.F.T Method by Ky Evans. We use this science-based approach of super slow in combination with fast explosive movements, all done without running, jumping and injuring your body, this is the workout Miami has been waiting for! FORM50 is a vibe, the class moves to the beat of a party playlist with an ultra-sleek, boutique vibe that feels nothing like a gym, so you actually want to be there!

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Hard to just pick one, there have been so many! But the top three are:
1. Let go of the things you cannot control (2020 in a nutshell)
2. This is a business, so I have had to learn not take things so personally
3. Trust your intuition and the first gut feeling you have when it comes to making tough decisions.
