Conversations with the Inspiring Shaina Hernandez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shaina Hernandez.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Shaina. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started doing makeup professionally 10 years ago in 2008.

I have always had a love for makeup ever since I was a little girl, it hit me in 2008 when I was working in an office that I wanted to go after what I really love to do.

I took a makeup course to learn the Professional aspect of the career, with Gabriel Productions, and soon after was hired by MAC Cosmetics.

I was hired as a freelancer in the south beach location, then moved to a permanent location In Nordstrom, Dadeland mall. Soon, after, I became the Retail Manager for about a year.

After I got married, I wanted to focus more on ME, as the artist, Real Beauty by Shaina, and grow.

Now, I work for the Telemundo Network part-time, as well as other productions, and focus more on my Brides and Clients. I love what I do, and all my clients know I show it.

Has it been a smooth road?
Some challenges have been keeping up with this evolving world that we live in. Trying to stay in the new, and social media are, I feel, a big challenge. Finding new clients, and the biggest challenge I feel that most women in general struggle with is self-doubt. Self-doubt is a dream killer. It can stop you from achieving your goals and can get in the way of your dreams. Overcoming the “what-ifs” is the biggest challenge. Coming up with new things, new ways to attract people to hire you can be exhausting mentally.

My best advice to women beginning this journey or any journey for that matter is to be kind. Be friendly to all who sit in your chair. you never know who that person will introduce to your chair next, be kind to other women, and take criticism for what it is. Don’t be upset when someone wants to give you THEIR opinion, it’s an opinion, you take it and do what you want with it, and some opinions are the ones that can be a GAME changer and end you up in the right place.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Real Beauty by Shaina story. Tell us more about the business.
I am a professional makeup artist.

I specialize in professional makeup for all occasions, especially bridal.

I am known for being able to bring out the real beauty in people.

Makeup isn`t just a look or “Pretty Makeup”, being a makeup artist, is being able to give an experience, a “feeling”.

helping that person in my chair not only look their best but FEEL their best. I am known for giving that experience. Giving women the tools to not only look good but feel good.

I am most proud of being able to give 100% satisfaction to my clients. Anyone that sits in my chair, I know will get treated the very best and get the very best.

What sets me apart? I pay attention to detail. Every face is different. I like to tailor the makeup to everyone`s needs/face structure, while at the same time giving them the finished look they want.

I also provide services such as a makeup personal shopper – I will go and buy for you the things needed/missing from your kit after a consultation or I will go WITH you as your personal shopper and help you from matching foundation to skin needs and be finding the right nude.

I also offer makeup classes in a group or one on one. I take your makeup bag and show you what to toss, keep and buy, AND show you how to use it STEP BY STEP – from a simple day look, a look for work, and a night look.

Looking back on your childhood, what experiences do you feel played an important role in shaping the person you grew up to be?
As much as I was ALWAYS drawn to makeup and everything beauty as a little girl, I would have to say my mom had a big role. She was always into beauty herself and I would learn from her the basics like blush and lipstick. She has pictures of me with lipstick everywhere in a fake vanity she once bought when I was 3, wearing fake long pearls. I feel its always been in me – I used to stare at magazines and try to copy the celebrity’s looks.
