Today we’d like to introduce you to GiGi Diaz.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Oh man… I don’t like talking about myself so much but I can tell you that it’s a bit of a long story. I was born in Cuba and moved to Miami in 1994. Since then I’ve been driven to make the best out of this opportunity to live my best life, my most successful and happiest life.
I’m a radio personality for iHeartRadio, an entrepreneur since 2003 with my dance studio GiGi’s Academy and with my Life and Business Coaching organization Seizing Happy since 2018, and I recently joined the Miami Marlins entertainment team as their new in-game-host which is very exciting.
I am a Life Coach dedicated to helping others align their life and business with the greatness and abundance the universe has to offer. I’m also the new In Game Host for your Miami Marlins so you stop by and say hello next time you visit Marlins Ballpark.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Absolutely not…
While the road has been fun, it’s been challenging.
When I decided to go back to FIU for my Master’s degree I was also working as a morning host for radio and as a sports reporter in the evenings. I got so overworked I was sick all the time. I was always run down, feeling like I had a flu, I’d sometimes spike fevers. This went on for over 3 months.
I started losing my hair from trying to balance my Master’s along with 2 jobs and supervising my business and I constantly felt the pressure of “not dropping the ball.”
It was horrible.
I was falling apart, and I kept pushing because it was my determination and responsibility to succeed.
I was oblivious to how unhealthy “determination” could be.
When I ended up in the ER having worked myself to the ground, I realized I had to take a step back.
I finished my Master’s degree but didn’t renew my contract as a reporter. Instead I took a break from everything for a few months and focused on me. I began exploring with meditation and eventually became a Second Level Reiki Master. I became aware that happiness isn’t in outside achievements but rather inside, in our peace and self-awareness. I learned this through self exploration and after acquiring a Certificate in Happiness Studies from University of Miami. This is what led me to opening Seizing Happy and getting certified as a Life Coach. It allows me to help other entrepreneurs align their life and business with the greatness and abundance life has to offer, always taking care of both: the business AND the person behind it. That balance is so important
My advice to young women starting their journey – which is also my advice to ALL women juggling multiple things – is “put yourself first.”
I know there’s a guilt that comes with putting yourself before your children, your job or business, your parents or husband… But the truth is that all those things depend on YOU. You’re the foundation and the life force behind your projects and if you’re not well, those things that are an extension o you cannot be well either.
Take time for you each week, at least an hour.
Each day, at least 30min to connect with your self and recharge so you can be there, at your best, for everything and everyone you love.
What do you feel are the biggest barriers today to female leadership, in your industry or generally?
MINDSET!
I believe we are our own biggest barrier.
Sure, we’re told most industries are male dominated, we’re told we’re too old or too young to aim for certain goals, we’re told SO many things… but it’s our MINDSET about these things that really has any effect.
It’s what we believe about ourselves and our abilities that becomes a barrier.
If you want to lead, you CAN.
This time is, more than ever, a time when women can fulfill their dreams and reach their goals.
Social media is incredibly powerful and something we focus on a lot in Seizing Happy business trainings because it’s a powerful tool to leverage if you want to build a following, a tribe to lead to greatness with your passion and knowledge.
What should we know about Seizing Happy? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
The Seizing Happy School is my newest entrepreneurial endeavor and I’m loving every moment of watching it grow and watching my amazing women clients grow with it.
What we do best is help other empowered women find balance between life and work. It’s catered mostly toward the entrepreneurial ladies, but really any woman who’s juggling life and work can benefit.
What sets us apart is the wholesomeness of our approach to business. We don’t just focus on the strategic growth, we focus also on the woman behind the brand who also needs attention and care.
