Today we’d like to introduce you to Annabel Mejia.
Annabel, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have always been determined to be successful. Throughout my early twenties, I was obsessed with trying to figure out what success meant to me and how I can achieve it.
I thought it meant having an upscale job, fancy house, luxury car. But, as I worked my way up, I realized, that was just what I was imagining success meant. Success can be whatever you want it to be.
Letting go of my depressing corporate job and not following everyone else’s traditional paths was one heck of a roller coaster. I started seeking ways to own my own business, done my way, to meet my own expectations of success. Through the emotional ups and downs, struggles and failures in search of real success in many business ventures, I finally found something I am truly passionate about.
Today, I am proud to say that I have found success in what I do. I am a Miami Photographer, capturing special lifestyle moments and building relationships within my community.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not! Sometimes, I am scared to admit that not everything went as smoothly as I wanted it to seem. But when has anything been easy?
I faced a lot of obstacles on my path to find true happiness in everything I do. A huge part of my life revolved around my career and I went through many personal/emotional changes as I grew to understand that I needed balance in my life. I was working 24/7 with no social life, I barely spent time with my family, I had no time to take care of myself, and I was just unhappy.
Now that I have turned that around, I can advise women starting out their journey that it is important to manage your time! It’s great to be a workaholic but never forget to make time for yourself so that you can reflect on all that you have already accomplished. Make time for family and friends to make memories. And lastly, learn to be happy with the simple things in life.
What should we know about Media by Anna? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I specialize in lifestyle and travel photography in Miami and Broward, Florida.
I recently changed my business name to Media by Anna because I want to be known as a person my clients can rely on to create media content for whatever they need.
For so long, I was not taking advantage of life as it was happening at the moment. So, I have made it my goal to make sure my clients are living the moment, while I take care of capturing the memories for them to enjoy again after.
I like to believe that what sets me apart from others is that I am passionate about working with each individual client, not just as a photographer but as a partner/friend who really cares to see the outcome meet their expectations as much as they do.
What do you feel are the biggest barriers today to female leadership, in your industry or generally?
Although I just began my journey in this industry, I have never faced any real hardships that have kept me from growing as a female leader.
I feel that we are all equal and we should all treat each other the way we want to be treated. As men and women in my industry, we should all have confidence in ourselves and be more concerned with self-growth and improving our techniques instead of bringing others down.
I have been blessed to meet great creatives, both men, and women, and nothing should stop us from doing what we love to do.
