Community Highlights: Meet Timothy Graham of Small Wine Shop

Today we’d like to introduce you to Timothy Graham.

Hi Timothy, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My wife Tracy and I moved here in February of this year. We chose Fort Lauderdale over other cities to move to for a variety of reasons, but the most important reasons why are that Tracy has family here and I believe that South Florida is perfect for our wine shop. I have been selling wine and managing other people’s shops for almost 20 years. About five years ago, Tracy said that I should go on my own and do a shop how I wanted it, I had been moving towards more wines with proper viticulture and vinification techniques over mass-produced wines, and I wanted a shop to focus solely on natural wines. We are proud to be the first natural wine shop in Broward county and look forward to showing our customers what we have to offer.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Our biggest struggle has been the COVID pandemic itself. Our opening was delayed a few months and we did not open until mid-summer. Many government offices that we dealt with were closed and many people were working from home, so it made the process of getting licenses and reviews longer than normal.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are a boutique wine shop located in the Flager Village neighborhood of Fort Lauderdale. Our hand-curated inventory of small production wines focuses on natural, organic, and biodynamic wineries from small producers. We are the first wine shop in Broward county to focus solely on natural wines and one of a handful of natural wine shops in the state of Florida. We have an extensive selection of wines made in a low-intervention style, from Albarino to Zibbibo! We are anti-snobbery when it comes to wine and we believe that anyone can find something they love in our shop.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Just keep going. No matter what obstacles are thrown in your way, just take a deep breath and move ahead.
