Check out Lauren Alexis Rodriguez’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Alexis Rodriguez.

Lauren Alexis, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
From the time I was a young girl, my passion for the arts has always burned ardently. I trained in various styles of dance – ballet, pointe, jazz, flamenco, belly dancing, as well as theatre – for 13 years, and found my first true love in self-expression through writing. I spent most of my childhood immersed in literature, poetry, film, music, and countless editions of Vogue, where the vivid world of fashion first captivated me as it came alive on the pages. As the years passed, my fascination with images only grew fonder, and at the age of 13, I asked my dad for a camera for Christmas, boldly stating that I was going to become a commercial photographer.

In full support of my ambitious dreams, he gifted me a novice Canon camera, thus marking the onset of my career as a photographer – a dream I consider myself truly blessed to say I’ve been living out ever since. Upon graduating high school, (Fun fact: I was home-schooled) I began pursuing my college career, and in just a few months, I graduate with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Digital Photography.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
While I enjoy delving into several areas of photography including dance, food, and lifestyle, fashion remains the most prevalent element in my overall body of work and serves as the driving force behind my artistry. While the traditional fashion photograph seeks to elevate the garment in place of the girl, I am more concerned with recounting her history.

My work is a visual library of soul soliloquies in which alluring color, rhythm, and light materialize an intimate narrative within each frame. In a dance between the elements, each subject becomes one with the garment, and in unison, they profess poetry before my lens. As a result, the garments take on flesh and liberate the very souls that first gave them breath. I am also dedicated to the creation of various fine art projects. Currently, I am working on a series entitled “Materialism”.

In it, I explore a variety of subject matter such as identity, consumerism, obsession, and societal standards to name a few.

Have things improved for artists? What should cities do to empower artists?
Being that we live in the age of the internet, connecting with fellow creatives both near and far has never been easier or more accessible. I believe that establishing an online presence as an artist is important not only to promoting one’s art but to develop relationships with those who work in the same, or different artistic capacities as you. I believe we can benefit greatly from sharing our knowledge and encouraging each other on our journeys of creation.

Every artist has a unique story to tell, but our passion for manifesting our dreams through creativity brings us all together. After all, that is how the story of art began: at some point in history, one artist inspired another, thus igniting the spark of creativity that still burns bright today. Sure, the life of an artist can be lonely at times (especially in the beginning), but I truly believe, in the words of Eleanor Roosevelt, that the future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams. Personally, I keep God at the center of my life, surround myself with people who inspire me and push me toward my dreams and allow my passion to lead the way.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
My portfolio can be viewed on my website, but the best place to keep up with me is on Instagram where I am constantly sharing my latest work, and behind the scenes footage, among other content. Here you’ll get to know the girl behind the lens on a more personal level. Website: www.laurenalexis.photography Instagram: @laurenalexis.photo
