Art & Life with Laura Memory Escobar and Drew Rothenberg

Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Memory Escobar and Drew Rothenberg.

Laura Memory and Drew, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
We are Laura Memory Photography & Videography. My middle name really is Memory! I’m proud to be named after my mom and is a name that’s been passed down through generations. Drew and I are a husband and wife wedding photography & videography team. I studied videography in high school and college and was always the friend with a camera. Our dearest friend describes the camera as a natural extension of who I am. While I’ve always treasured capturing memories, this year is my first year a full-time freelancer. I realized quickly that I needed a support system to help me be my very best before, during, and after wedding days. Over the years of being with me and reviewing my work, Drew has picked up technical tips and an artistic eye.

We’re actually high school sweet hearts so we’ve been together for over a decade! Drew was the first person to describe what I do as art. He is reliable, organized, and can remember anything. So, I naturally started teaching him my passion. He started assisting me on wedding days as my second photographer/videographer and almost immediately became a pro. I knew he reached pro status when couples were posting his photos on Facebook! Drew is a child clinical psychologist by day helping kids and families in need in MDC. His heart of gold, empathy for others, and joyous demeanor is the perfect fit for wedding days. He affirms couples, quickly adapts to curve balls, and is keeps me organized and motivated. We love that we can work together on the weekends and after working dozens of weddings together, we know each other’s every thought and move.

We also love breaking it down on the dance floor together! So grateful for my perfect partner in my job and in life! One of our favorite things is traveling for our job and meeting couples all over the world! So, the next steps will actually take us abroad! We’ll be living in Rome, Italy, South Island, New Zealand, and Trollhattan, Sweden. Come visit!

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
Our art is in the genuine connection, in the in between moments, and in the light and shadows. We create memories and love stories through photos and videos referencing our own adventure though life together. I’m so blessed that we have our 10+ years together as a foundation to help give couple’s their dream day. Our job isn’t just limited to the wedding day.

We are with the couple often a year before hand helping them with personal details, planning their day, and getting to know them and support them. So often become good friends with our couples which help make the wedding day festivities even more special. So, our art is in the fostering of relationships which then allows us to capture intimate moments that the couple can treasure for a life time.

How do you think about success, as an artist, and what do quality do you feel is most helpful?
As an artist, I define success on a personal level. If you give your all and do your very best, then that’s all you can ask for. That’s when I feel fulfilled. It’s doubley successful when our clients love our work and treasure the memories we can give them. Then my heart is full and content. As a full time, artist, there are ups and down for sure, that comes with the job, but I wake up happy every day knowing I can create something amazing with my hands and with my heart to give to someone to enjoy. Drew and I strive to live a life serving others in whatever ways we can. My art is one way I can give back and make people happy.

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
We’d love for friends to follow us on Instagram. We post a lot of behind the scene stories about our travels and adventures and love interacting with our followers. As we move to Rome, NZ, and Sweden starting in October, we’d love to meet up with new friends abroad and of course take your pic with epic backdrops! You can also get to know us on Facebook and our website!
