Today we’d like to introduce you to Betiana Bradas.
Betiana, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I’m Betiana Bradas, from Argentina. I grew up in a very small town called Chovet and there I started my first steps in art. Then I moved to the city of Rosario, where I started to study graphic design. This contact with the design became my interest in investigating new forms of artistic expression. And that’s where I enroll in the Fine Arts career at the National University of Rosario, I also took classes with the artist María Alicia Vicari and with Claudio Roncoli in Buenos Aires, among others.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I started this process with a serious need to let go, to leave behind habits and structures that had nothing to do with me. Going through different moments in my life, where when I deconstruct myself, I understood that it’s now or never! I break, I disarm, I get naked to rediscover myself.
I start each work with a sketched idea and then it requires me to intervene with different materials where it’s taking me, to very different results, unexpected or projected. The materials that emerge to work are those that I have grown up with and have fed me. The metals are what I visualized daily in my father’s factory. I was also integrating new and more sensitive materials such as wood, cardboard, ribbons, leather and some of mine already used; to resignify them and thus arrive at my new conceptual work, called LAYERS.
Transgressing the limits of the established, breaking with a supposed two-dimensionality of the canvas, with a back and a forward, an inside and an outside is the vital impulse of LAYERS.
Given everything that is going on in the world today, do you think the role of artists has changed? How do local, national or international events and issues affect your art?
Yes, I believe that changed and in my own practice globalization has allowed being able to get what one does too many more people, connect with galleries and artists from all over the world. Social networks today is an important and fundamental tool when it comes to going to the contemporary art market
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
In Argentina I have my own studio – gallery, there’s part of my works. In Miami, I have a studio in Wynwood, but you could find part of my artworks in a permanent exhibition at the James Knight Center, Brickell, with Nina Torres Fine Art. My work is also now being exhibited in Hollywood at ArtsPark Gallery in a Pre Art Bassel exhibition with Contemporary Art Projects USA. In Italy, Padova represents me Marco Antonio Patrizio Gallery, with them he made many exhibitions. Also, together with Excellence Art Gallery of Marbella, I am participating in Art Zurich in September.
