Daily Inspiration: Meet Carly Cartaya

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carly Cartaya.

Carly, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Miami Grazing Company, like so many other small businesses was born out of the need for a creative outlet & “side hustle” during the early days of the pandemic. My husband and I loved going out for wine and cheese as well as hosting some of our friends over for charcuterie nights. In early June 2020 the cheese board craze started to grow and we decided to try our hand with a small two person graze box. Our first product ever was our “date night box” , as a nod to our favorite pastime. The 16 months that have followed have been a whirlwind and we have gone so much further as a business than we ever could have imagined! Our two most popular specialties are our grazing tables & our Build A Board workshops! Our focus now is sharing the love of cheese, charcuterie and making every special event memorable.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting a business in the pandemic was definitely challenging. During the time Miami Grazing was really growing I was also 8 months pregnant! It was physically and mentally taxing to juggle a full time job, children, COVID-19 And the business. Thanks to our amazing clients and supporters I was able to leave my “9-5” and become a full time cheese dealer . Being a business owner is a full time job but I would not change a thing.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
We are most known for our workshops and collaborations with local small businesses. The board business in South Florida is insanely competitive and can be dicey at times. However , I am most proud of the connections I have made within the grazing community! There are some amazing women owned businesses we absolutely adore working with. We all refer clients back and forth , and share ideas. Miami Grazing Company isn’t just cheese & salami, we love to teach & produce amazing edible art for the people in our city.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
With the world slowly reopening and large scale gatherings returning, I think grazing is JUST getting started. We are almost fully booked with grazing tables until the end of 2021 and some dates in 2022! I think this niche has unlimited potential not just for current cheese board companies but ones in the future as well.
