Perspective & Advice for Those Facing Insurmountable Odds

Throughout our journey with Voyage, the one thing we have learned over and over is that hidden within every challenge is a blessing or opportunity. It’s up to us to determine whether a challenge we face will be a step back or the catalyst for a step forward.

We had the honor of connecting with some of the city’s brightest female leaders and role models and we asked them our question of the month: What is the best advice you have for someone who feels like they are facing insurmountable odds.

Below, you’ll find their advice and links and other info so you can learn more about them, their work and how to connect with them. We’ll be interviewing many of these amazing women in the coming weeks, stay tuned.

Julia Cinquemani | Professional Ballerina with Miami City Ballet | Owner and Designer of Jule Dancewear

In the dance world there are so many ups and downs. From the highs of dancing my dream role, to the lows of getting injured, I have learned to accept the fluctuations as part of the business. If ballet has taught me anything, it has taught me to dig deep, be persistent and be true to myself.  I apply that same mentality when I’m creating for my dancewear line, Jule Dancewear. No matter the set back, I know what my goals are and that nothing will knock me off my path. Do not underestimate your ability to overcome anything that seems impossible. It can seem daunting to take your first step towards an uphill battle. The most important part is that you take that first step and that you are persistent in the steps that follow. If you believe in a dream or goal 100%, let it be known.

I’ve learned over and over is that hidden within every challenge is a blessing or opportunity. I am a big believer in the law of attraction and the universe. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed and taken back by challenges that come our way, but try to always see the good in every circumstance. The universe is and will always work for you, never against you. Once you can learn to accept the challenges and see that the universe is working to put you on the path that is meant for you, you will see a number of opportunities start to come to you. Learn to attract the things you love, desire and cherish in life, and watch the universe align you with those vibrations! Life is too short to focus on your shortcomings. Learn that everything you experience is an upcoming for your greater good. “Don’t stop – believing.” whatever the challenge is, don’t stop.  Don’t stop what you are doing or working toward.  Don’t stop trying or working hard.  Don’t stop BELIEVING: in yourself.  Don’t stop BELIEVING in what you can be.  Eventually, you will overcome the challenge and almost not even realize it because you were so focused on just reaching your goals.  Life is all about the ups and downs, highs and lows.  If we are not challenged, we do not grow.  Welcome life’s challenges and then you can revel in your victories! Everyone goes through times where they feel like their life is insurmountable, where you feel like you aren’t ever going to get through this rough patch in life. My best advice when you are feeling this way, focus on short term daily goals, weekly goals and then annual goals. Big goals can seem overwhelming. There is no challenge in life that is insurmountable. Any roadblocks we face are there for a reason. They allow us to pause, grow and learn. If we focus on the positive and believe in ourselves, we can achieve anything we dream of doing! It is all in the power of our thoughts and actions. Each day is a brand new day to succeed. Never let anyone tell you you can’t do something or you aren’t good enough. We were all put on this earth to shine. Let your light shine through! When facing a challenge that feel insurmountable I always go back to basics. What is my “why”? I do a lot of introspective exploring about my motivation and from there am able to pull the necessary strength, resources and dedication to begin to tackle that challenge. Having a plan is key. Making a plan and breaking it down into steps that make it more easily completed also help with feeling overwhelmed or defeated. The main things for me though it my motivation and if I can remember my “why” then I will be much more determined to give it everything I have!

Breathe, take your time and weigh all your possible options. Often times when we are in a situation where we don’t have control over, we panic and we stress out thinking there is no way out of it. But we have to remember that every problem has a solution. Some may be easier than others but we have to believe in ourselves and surround ourselves with good support system who can help, motivate and help us surpass any challenge or hurdle in life.

If you feel as if you’re facing a challenge that is insurmountable I believe you should shift your mindset to positive affirmations and believe in yourself and your abilities. I also think it is important to remind yourself how rewarding it will feel at the end when you’ve reached your insurmountable goal. And finally I think it can be helpful to remember that any time you’re at a point of great struggle it really just means you’re at a point in life where real personal growth is happening and you’re being prepared to overcome so much more than you ever thought you could accomplish.

When facing an insurmountable challenge, it’s important to take a small step each day toward resolving the issue. Fear and worry should be cast aside as much as possible. Reach out to a friend who you can trust. Chances are someone has faced the same challenge if not worse, so it’s important to have a heart to heart   conversation – we’re all human and face difficulties in which good friends can help you navigate through.  Most importantly, turn to your Faith.

Have a go … the worst thing that can happen is you need to do it again.  Building a business is like scaling a mountain.  Firstly  you will never get there if you don’t start, you also need to continually train and educate and challenge yourself .  You may get easily to base camp and part of the way up the mountain then falter, do you give up and go home or plan a different route or technique and continue from where you are or even start again  . Keep going,  if you love what you do then you can’t give up because then you will never know what you could achieve.  You don’t learn from what goes well you only learn from what doesn’t work out .

Imagine how the strongest wisest and most confident person on earth would handle your given situation. What action steps are they taking? Who are they talking to? How are they restructuring their beliefs? Then, set aside some time every day to visualize becoming that person! Mental reps count just as much as physical reps and soon your mental action will become physical! And don’t forget , the lows in life make the highs much sweeter.

I believe you can conquer anything you put your time and effort into. The difference is not in the challenge, but on yourself and the attitude towards the problem. My best advice is to believe in yourself always, make it a reality in your mind and break down the process. I can assure, you can accomplish anything you want with hard work and self confidence.
