What’s the Best Advice You’ve Ever Received?

All of us are where we are today partly because of our own efforts and partly because of the advice, guidance, influence and inspiration provided by others.  At Voyage we have the good fortune of connecting with so many of the city’s hidden gems – from entrepreneurs and creatives to athletes, researchers and more.  We asked them a simple, but important question: what is the best advice, personal or professional, that you’ve ever received?

Queen Fatimah – R&B/ Soul Recording Artist

The best advice I’ve received is to never make excuses! I’ve recently moved to Miami to pursue my dreams as a professional singer which has been a great accomplishment. I’ve realized that if I made excuses for everything in life I would not be where I am today. Life is not easy and you will always have a few road blocks along the way but as long as you stay focused on your goal and stay positive it will make it easier to keep going! Aldrin Coto – Actor and TV Host

Always tell the truth, no matter what, the truth is gonna be always the best answer and can’t be changed, doesn’t matter how hard it is, it’s the truth.

Social Media – Aldrin Coto

Miguel Guzman – Entrepreneur & Public Figure

The best advice I have ever recieved would be when I was once told in order to succeed you first must learn how to fail. It’s not an uncommon word that’s delivered however very few people truly grasp it. Our greatest lessons come from failure. The moment you fall is the moment you find out who you are and that’s value. Mark Twain said ““The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.” When you find out why is when you will succeed at all it is that you do and when you succeed go find something else to fail at.

Tittle Gui Dapelo Barrys Miami Master instructor & triathlete wanna be

The best advice I’ve ever received is to not be concerned with what other people think of me. It’s very easy to become fixated with how you or your work are perceived. If you remain self-aware and never compromise your integrity, it doesn’t really matter what anyone else thinks. Nobody knows YOU better than YOU. Any time spent stressing over other’s opinions is time wasted! Remember, every human is in charge of their own destiny!

Nidia Gonzalez – FIU Public Relations Student

The best advice I have ever received is to take full accountability for everything I do in life because all my decisions are up to me and solely me. This helps me both in my personal and professional life because of the fact that I know I am responsible for everything I do; whether it’s doing my work on time or making time for family.

Dream. Do everything you can. Be patient. Everything takes time. You have to put the practice into work. As long as you constantly think 💭 and do what you want to do everything will come in time.

Letícia Navas – Actress, Singer and TV Presenter

Stay true to yourself. If you are not Ok with something, politely say so. Never be uncomfortable with anything – you don’t need to! Tell the person how YOU feel when something happens and not how the person did wrong. Be humble, listen to people and take the best out of their comments. Exclude the negative. Ask questions, and always be interested 😉

Marian Lantigua –  Marketer/Investor/Entrepreneur

Don’t be afraid to change. To change your friends, habits, job or career, major, the way you react to situations, your standards, your environment & surroundings. Change can be scary, but you know what’s scarier? Allowing fear to stop you from growing, evolving, and progressing. Everyone will always have something to say about the new person you’re becoming. Sometimes you’ve got to be able to listen to yourself and be ok with no one else understanding.
