Too many of us grew up only seeing one kind of boss or leader in the media. The lack of representation for other groups reinforced harmful stereotypes and acted as a self-fulfilling prophesy, but would our opinion of what a leader looks like be different if the media did a better job at representing the true diversity of leadership in America?
Women and other under-represented groups are already leading many great companies, organizations, & academic institutions; others are authoring best-sellers, building engaged audiences, leading movements and more.
We had the honor of connecting with many of the best and brightest female leaders from in and around the city and we asked them our question of the month: What is the best advice you have for someone who feels like they are facing insurmountable odds.
We encourage you to check out the female leaders we’ve highlighted below, follow them on social media if you find their work or story interesting and most importantly do your part to #fightstereotypes

I would say to stay focus and take it step by step .Things take time , as an artist with a dream I can say I’ve had those moments . Nothing lasts forever …. one day we’re here the next we’re not . So pick up the pieces because you are strong enough to overcome anything and succeed in this life as the person you are. Remember , you only get one life to live and no challenge is stronger than you!

Facing challenges is a real struggle that even successful people face on a daily basis. Some tend to dwell on the negative and let fear of what can go wrong get in the way of making things happen. The key is to stay focused on the bright side and know that all obstacles either have a solution and/or soon will pass. With faith in the author of your life, all will work out as planned! Last, all the obstacles in our lives are just stepping stones to shape us into who we are meant to be and make us stronger! Never give up!

I would tell anyone facing a seemingly insurmountable challenge to pace yourself. Take it day by day and, if you need to, minute by minute. Stay positive, always look on the bright side, and count your blessings. No matter what obstacle you may be facing, it could always be worse. You will get through it, just be patient and trust the process. You are a beautiful, strong, and resilient person. Keep your head high and just keep moving forward.

Visualize yourself after you’ve conquered the challenge to help you focus on overcoming it. Fight any fears that may be holding you back. Ask for anything you need – the worst that can happen is you’ll get a ‘no’. Keep waking up every day and facing what’s in front of you – that’s brave. Attract courage and guidance by putting it out into the universe. Greatness takes sacrifice, so be willing to understand that your life may change but it will be worth it!

Look around you for some perspective. Your problem is probably not so hard to solve or overcome.

Allow yourself a moment to feel whatever emotion you need to. Feel it, but know it is only momentary. Once it passes, start to plan your steps of action. Being a millennial teen mom and having suffered from other unthinkable traumas in life taught me to never give up. Find your why once you’ve allowed yourself to feel what you need to feel. You may know what your why is right away, or you may have to marinate on it for awhile. Just know, it’s ok if it takes a little time. Your why will propel you towards the life you dream of! For me, in the beginning my why was proving to others that my child and I would live a full life more so than anyone thought was possible for us. Here we are 14 years later, living proof that everything traumatic passes. Never lose your little joys in life. The little things will keep you strong during the dark moments. Stay brave, be fierce and tell the world you’ve got this like a boss!

I think in my opinion the best advice to facing a challenge is simply just to start now. There is nothing in this world you have to be afraid for. Even not of your boss/ the future or when people leave you in life. That is how life goes. It’s always an up & down. If you have a down life is just proving you how strong you are. Never forget to think positiv – it’s like law attraction if you know what you want & where you have to go in life you get everything. If you think negativ you get exactly that what you think. Obviously I prefer the first 🙂

Don’t give up! It might seem there is no way when you are trying so hard to reach your dreams and goals, however, keep your faith and head straight! Believe that everything is good and whatever you are going through is a temporary challenge. Positive mind is so strong and powerful, you might be surprised. Trust me, believing in your self and your strength, believe in GOD, you will accomplish your hardships no matter what. GOD helps those who believe!

I think we ALWAYS have to believe in ourselves, take THAT first step and trust in our very own potential. Perseverance, that is the KEY to reach our goal. There are no insurmountable challenges if we work hard with our hearts!

I know it sounds so overplayed and you might feel like tuning this out in times of disbelief, but when one door closes in your life another opens. You may not know the reason why in the near future, but just you wait, time will tell!!
