Throughout our journey with Voyage, the one thing we have learned over and over is that hidden within every challenge is a blessing or opportunity. It’s up to us to determine whether a challenge we face will be a step back or the catalyst for a step forward.
We had the honor of connecting with some of the city’s brightest female leaders and role models and we asked them our question of the month: What is the best advice you have for someone who feels like they are facing insurmountable odds.
Below, you’ll find their advice and links and other info so you can learn more about them, their work and how to connect with them. We’ll be interviewing many of these amazing women in the coming weeks, stay tuned.

I think it’s about taking the challenge head on, stay focused, think creatively and work very hard to conquer it. But if you don’t conquer it, understand that we are not defined by our failure, we are defined by the way we use our learnings.
Carolina Perez | Curvy Lifestyle & Fashion Blogger
I suffer from anxiety so depending on my mood, sometimes even the simplest challenge feels like the end of the world for me. The following two things always seem to help me in facing those challenges: 1. get a planner and write down EVERYTHING you have to do. Seeing your life written out and organized will help you have a clearer mindset and it will be easier to figure out your plan of action. 2. think to yourself “will this be a problem 3 years from now? 5? 10? if the answer is no (which most of the time that’s what it ends up being), there is no reason to panic. Think about it rationally and you will figure out the solution.

Most of the people have been or are experiencing such a situation. Challenges are for us to win and overcome ,so change the way you see it. Take a step back, distancing yourself and trying to see things as facts. Think positive and try not to be emotional.Sooner or later the situation is going to work out and when this time comes make sure you are happy and strong.
Yanina Petracca | Journalist and Vet Tech Student
My secret to face callenging situations is focusing on action over thinking. Dificulty is distorted by out perception, if you think you cannot do something, then you probably won’t. So the best you can do is to look at your strengths and use them! I have always been terrible at math and have always been avoiding it, but since I discovered that working with animals is my dream I decided to enroll in a veterinary program, even though it had several math courses. I set the goal to pass the exams and I used my best skills to deal with the problem. This helped me pass the courses with flying colors.

My advice would be that no one is faced with a challenge that they are unable to overcome. Some challenges in your life may feel harder than others, but you just have to push through because it will help you grow in the end. I truly believe that everything you go through in life is meant for you to experience, the good and the bad; so make the best of it and don’t sweat the small stuff. The only way to go is up.

All things are possible with hard work and focus. Just because something is difficult or you don’t tackle it on your first attempt does not mean it’s impossible.

My best advice is trust that there is always a greater purpose to your circumstances. Every trial we go through matures us and ultimately, prepares us for the next season we are gong to walk into. During the time of your suffering, you won’t see the end result, but by faith you can count it as joy and trust that God knows what He is doing with you. Don’t fix your eyes on what you see- everything is temporary. Focus on your purpose so you can see your reward at the end of the race.
Federica Lugo | Part-time Traveler
I`d say… let yourself panic and freak out, but give yourself a deadline. After that, do your best to break everything down. We always try to tackle huge problems in one go, which can be extremely intimidating and often frustrating. But when we break it down and set achievable goals (small as they may be), we move forward towards dealing with the situation and potentially getting through it.

The advice I have for anyone facing challenges they feel are insurmountable is to keep in mind that to remember that you were put on this planet for a reason, and the universe throws nothing at us that we can’t handle in one way or another.
Alisa Alexeychuk | Yoga Enthusiast
As a great B.K.S. Iyengar said: “Yoga allows you to rediscover a sense of wholeness in your life, where you do not feel like you are constantly trying to fit broken pieces together.” Do practice, and you will see the light!

Faith, patience and gratitude”-NR the challenges come to teach us to grow, if we replace the words insurmountable and we ask ourselves…, what did I learn? At that moment we challenge ourselves to change to a positive mindset and see hope where we believe we have a lost battle.
Erika Gutierrez | Mathematician and Mindset Coach
Challenges are a necessary part of life. We need them to grow and gain wisdom. At the moment, they may seem like a burden…but once you look back they are a blessing. Embrace your challenges and keep a positive mentality. Once you overcome it, you’ll realize the universe will never present you with a challenge you can’t handle.
Evelyn Faria | Digital Marketer and Content Producer
The best advice would be to never give up, although it might sound cliché. Nothing is impossible and only by facing those challenges we will become a better version of ourselves. In fact, everything happens for a reason; maybe we need those challenges to improve as human beings or achieve something greater. Now that I take a look back into my life, I have learned those “insurmountable” challenges I faced were nothing when compared to who I am nowadays and what I can overcome.
Mafe Martino | Makeup Artist
The best advice is to be perseverant, never give up on your dreams! Every single ride starts with a little step!

That overwhelming feeling of inadequacy is your minds way of telling you you’re finally stepping out of your comfort zone and in a better direction. It’s not easy, but every flower must grow through dirt.

Challenges are like mountains that we climb with sacrifice and honor, never give up, the goals are met but the challenges are overcome and when you achieved them, you feel you own your world.
Mela G | Fitness Coach & Personal Trainer
Honestly the best advice i can give is to face the challenge head on, nothing in life comes easy and once you get through whatever it was you thought was insurmountable you will realize that anything is possible. I myself have came across plenty of challenges, the main one being losing weight and being healthy but here i am 6 years later looking back and feeling greater than ever. I have been able to start my own fitness brand and help people change their lifestyles to better themselves. In the beginning the challenge seems unaccomplishable but you have to go through it in order to realize that it can be accomplished. Things are never going to be clear once you decide to do them, the lesson is always learned after a couple of bumps in the road but then you have to be real with yourself and decide whether you want to continue or give up. Challenges are never easy but they are worth the roller coaster ride because at the end you come out learning things you would have never if you wouldn’t have gone for it. At the end of the day you have to be honest with yourself and decide if the challenge is worth the growth of success or failure but you learn from either or and continue onto the next challenge.
Carmen Trini Guzman | Personal trainer + Makeup artist
The best things come from the worst battles. You may be afraid to face new challenges but then, everything you fought for will be worth it.
Carolina Florez | Tour Guide and Sales Manager at Miami Tour Company
It takes more energy stressing over a problem that it does to actually find a solution”. I constantly revolve this motto in my mind because there is no point in thinking about all the negatives and the stresses of an issue as it will never help the solution come quicker. As a tour guide I’ve had many obstacles and challenges come my way during a tour and you have to pretend like there is nothing wrong. So you have to quickly, efficiently, and without detection solve whatever problem it is that you have.
Isabela Oliveira | Bartender, fitness & travel LIFESTYLE
My first advice would be: stop and breathe! However difficult the situation is, everything always has a solution. Sometimes we get desperate and lost for worrying and blaming ourselves too much. It is in our hands to get the best of every moment, even when it seems impossible, this is part of our evolution as a human being. Take the challenge, face it, share it, trust the process, be positive and make each experience a life lesson.
Simone Ware | Capri Curves – Fit Queens Coach & Fitness Influencer
Mind over Matter every time! There’s absolutely nothing you can’t do once you put your mind to it. I’m a testament and firm believer of that. Will it be easy? NO! Do it anyway!
Jackeline Benzecry | Realtor® and Art Director
Turning the challenge into smallerattainable goals is the best way to tackle it. Take one day at a time and celebrate small victories while staying consistent, focused and determined. Although not always easy, I do apply this thought regularly in my life, weather I am training for an Ironman competition, setting up financial goals in my career or dealing with health setbacks. Oh and yes, always keep a positive attitude and think good thoughts!
